"Colt .45-caliber revolver, that descendants of the famous lawman say he carried in Tombstone and possibly the shootout at O.K. Corral.
He reportedly said that he expects 6,000 bidders and thinks the two guns will fetch about $275,000."

I think I'll make do with Blackhawk

That's a lot of money for a gun with no serial number to trace authenticity. A sworn certificate by a previous owner doesn't really mean much. Still, it is an intriguing item. -- Al

I'm ertainly not an expert, but the only two VERIFIABLE firearms from the incident in October of 1881 were two of the outlaws' pistols that were entered into court record by serial number. Most people agree that the "Buntline Special" was mostly a PR gimmic by Ned Buntline and that Earp may not have even posssessed his at the time of the Gunfight At OK Corral. One source mentions that he carried a Remington No.3 (in the movie "Tombstone" this is carried by Earp when he arrests Curly Bill after the murder of Marshall White). Another common misconception is the holsters. Wyatt and the other Earps were city police officers and usually didn't carry their weapons in open holsters. Wyatt is supposed to have carried his gun in a special pocket in his coat. The article said that it was enlarged and the material was waxed to make it stiffer, creating a "holster" pocket in the coat. The Colt Single Action Army with 7 1/2 inch barrel (the gun shown in that link) was a VERY common firearm on the American frontier at the time, but nobody has been really able to ID the weapons the Earps used in the alley beside Fly's Photo Studio that day.
