The great thing about Bill's work is his inclusion of the social and cultural history of the eras he is covering. Thus the Types of the American West includes Lewis & Clark, a cattle drive, the Mormons, the building of the Union Pacific RR and its Chinese laborers, a saloon, the Oklahoma Boomers, the Gold Rush, a Prairie Homestead, Apaches, Hopis, Sioux, and even a circa 1915 Hollywood movie studio filming a Western. As an art and cultural historian I am thrilled to see the inclusion of the artist George Catlin, photographer Edward S. Curtis, author Mark Twain, and naturalist John Muir with his fellow conservationist Teddy Roosevelt.

Illustrations:

A. George Catlin
B. A typical Catlin Indian portrait (White Cloud)
C. Edward S. Curtis
D. A typical Curtis Indian photograph (Medicine Crow)
E. TR and John Muir

Thanks for this Randy, the Wild West series really intrigues me. I mean who doesn't love playing Cowboys and Indians :D :D :D

Hopefully Pat will report in soon, he has been quiet since his incident with his Durbar carriage.

Randy, I couldn't agree more. Bill is kinda unique in that area. I also appreciate the fact that his figures are not discontinued. This allows you to collect them at your financial convenience.

Just took a look at his site and since I am a collector of his stuff, already! I AM SO ALL OVER THE WEST..especially any cavalry and indians..Anxiously awaiting the pictures. Also Teddy and boys might be a range for me..ALL OF US, TOGETHER MUST WHISPER IN BILL'S EAR..CUSTER...CUSTER..CUSTER...Michael

The Mark Twain set would go nicely with one of your steamboats too!

That would mean total disarmament as I built mine for war. But having said that, my upper works are removable ,so maybe a more genteel look could be worked...Michael
