Andy mentioned this to me months ago as did my Dad. Only just come up on Netflix.

My Dad (Intelligence Corps) served in Aden shortly before 1965. I clearly remember being on the beach 22 Nov 1963 as news of the death of JFK came over the radio. Wiki says hostilities started in Dec 1963 but I dont recall being aware of anything dangerous going on and not sure when we left.

The 6 part BBC series covers an MP unit in Aden in 1965. It was filmed in Cape Town which to me seems to work well as Aden.

It mainly centres on the families of the officers (ie. the drinking unfaithful wife and the newly arrived Captain and wife, Major's pregnant wife and kid etc) and trouble with the rebels. Not finished it yet but for an MP unit they seem to have zero interaction with other British soldiers. I guess any ex British army guys will think that is a good thing{sm4} The unit has some fairly unintelligent members who randomly drive into villages when supposed to be going to the Airport. There is one episode with 2 MP's joining with the SAS (SLR's before they got the H&K type gear) in a desert raid. Surprise surprise one of them cant keep up !

Did not recognise any of the actors except the female journalist who looked familiar. Turns out it was Australian actress Essie Davis.

I found it interesting to read the comments at IMDB about the series and no surprise there are some technical aspects that are not correct.

Whilst the story line is a bit over the top I found it interesting to watch as brought back a few memories of my Dad in his shorts and the army quarters we lived in there and in Cyprus.

Yes, good show Brett,

I saw it a few years back when it was on ABC, maybe you missed it there?
