As a USC alum, I well remember the red haired "robo" QB Todd Marinovich from his college football days. ESPN has done a fantastic job telling his story and it really changed my opinion of the guy and his situation. He was a wonder boy trained relentlessly by his dad to be a QB. He took SC to a Rose Bowl victory his first season as a freshman. Then was caught up in drugs and things went downhill. He left after his sophomore year to play in the NFL. That turned out to be a disaster with his drug habit intensifying. Most viewed him as a surfer-type druggie who blew all his chances. And some of that is true. But he comes off as a well spoken and likeable guy who has turned his life around. He doesn't appear to have much bitterness toward anyone or blame anyone else for what happened. Nice to see that he is at peace with himself.

Doug,

Haven't seen the program but do remember him. What is he doing now?

He is an artist with young children. Anyone who had a major drug addiction is always on the cusp, though. So hopefully he stays on the straight and narrow: http://toddmarinovich.com/

I highly recommend this ESPN program along with the one they did on the poor guy who interfered with a foul ball at a Cubs playoff game a few years back. The Cubs lost the game and the series and this guy became a pariah in Chicago.

I wanted to see this one as I remember that kid, his father was over the top pushing the kid, felt bad for him, he was on the Raiders for awhile, will have to see if it is playing again anytime soon.

And the Barkman story was incredible, all over a stupid baseball game, death threats, etc, etc, the guy had to go into hiding, I heard he pays cash for everything, doesn't want people to know who he is.

Unreal.

I would think Marion Barber is person non grata today in Chicago.

That footage of Barkman sitting in the stands while people were throwing beer and cursing him is painful to watch. And a near lynch mob forming outside the stadium chanting for his blood. Surreal. The guy was also a lifelong Cubs fans. The couple at the game with him apparently ditched him. The security folks had to drive him to a safe place after the game. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The other folks reaching for that ball were mighty glad they didn't touch it. The ESPN story may have rehabilitated the guy and demonstrated how unfairly he was treated.

Felt bad for the guy, first he goes out of bounds keeping the clock going so Jesus, I mean Tebow, gets the ball back and drives the Broncos down the field for the tying field goal, then he just about busts one for the game winning TD only to have the ball stripped, aka Ernest Byner in the 1987 AFCCG in Denver as he was going in for the tying touchdown (why does weird stuff always happen in Denver), thus giving the ball back to Jesus, I mean Tebow and naturally, Jesus, I mean Tebow drives down for the game winning 87 yard field goal.

Is there any doubt in anyones mind Jesus, I mean Tebow, is going to lead the Broncos to the Super Bowl and win it vs the Packers, thus ruining their perfect season?

It's Gods will.

That was bad. I couldn't believe it. When the Broncos got the ball back at the end of regulation, my son looked at me and said you are cooked. He gave me a double look when he fumbled. Unbelievable. Shows how much they miss Cutler and Forte. Too bad. Looked like they were headed to a great year.
