We launched our new range, officially, at Magpie on Saturday. Some of you may have seen the images on Facebook, some of you may well not have done so, here are the details for those that missed out or simply want more details.

The new “Colonial Range” will, over time, cover a variety of conflicts and actions that took place between the British Empire and its Colonial Countries natural inhabitants during the 148 years between 1756 to 1904. The first figures for the Colonial Range will feature combatants from the Anglo Zulu War of 1879, with the initial releases featuring the 24th Regiment of Foot in a variety of poses. These should be on sale from November, with additions being made available in December and then January, so a good initial contingent of 24th Foot.

Should the AZW become an outright success, we will continue to offer these in the Colonial range and supplement them with figures from other aspects of the 148 years. So much is open for this range and
we find the prospect of being able to offer so much very exciting. Hopefully, you will all let us know some pieces you may wish to see. One thing is certain though. Although we will of course go in and out of conflicts within the period covered, we will never abandon them. This should give many collectors the chance to diversify their tastes and collections within a sensible and spreadable budget.

If you would like more details, please PM or e-mail me (malcolm@empiremm.co.uk) or come talk to me in Chicago / London at the shows.

For now though, here are a few images of the first figures and, before you ask or comment, they WILL fit perfectly with the W Britain 24th foot figures, right down to the paint colours! The gaiters are changing, the colours are not this vivid in real life and the rifle sling hook will be gunmetal. (these are pre, pre production images!)

To those of you who have already pre-ordered the first four, thank you, thank you, thank you!

Cheers,

Malcolm. :salute::

Hi Malcolm,

out of all the numerous "Colonial" conflicts, what made you start with the 1970 Anglo Zulu War?
This particular conflict is probably the most covered one out of all, in both matte and glossy finish.

There is/was Conte, there is of course WBritain, there's Thomas Gunn, there's First Legion, there' s Heritage. There are more in glossy and also in plastic.

This is not a complaint, I'm just curious :wink2:

See you in Chicago next week :smile2:

Hi Konrad,

That is a very good question and one that many others are no doubt thinking! Me included initially.

The genuine truth is that it was never a conflict that I intended to enter. However, UK retailers and collectors started to request that we covered the conflict. After much soul searching I decided we would cover it but with caveats applied. What you see now are the figures with those caveats followed through.

It is my genuine wish to make pieces that compliment rather than challenge.

Looking forward to meeting you in Chicago, and many other new people too.

Thanks for taking the time to ask the question.

Best wishes,

Malcolm.

Thanks for the reply, Malcolm.
And I'm very sorry about my "1970" typing.
How I came up with that, when I wanted to type 1879, I have no idea ^&grin
Got to keep a closer look at what I'm doing.
Cheers!
Konrad

Malcolm,

How about something India related, such as India Mutiny or NW Frontier. I guess I share Konrad's perplexity as there is so much Zulu Wars out there. It's kind of like making Tigers in the WW II area.

Hi Brad,

We are currently looking to 2 other conflicts to put into the range and India is being discussed as it was a big part of the British Empire / Colonial times.

Like I said in my reply to Konrad, I reacted to requests of retailers and collectors who asked for me to release 24th Foot / Zulu figures and have made a commitment to buying them. They gave valid reasons, one being how retailers still (in the UK at least) have new collectors wanting standard poses but find them hard to come by and seasoned collectors wanted some "different" things. As one said to me, there were a lot of 24th in Zululand and, "Zulu's, Thousands of em'" {sm4}

As the range is released you should hopefully see where these fit in. I will have the first four master paint figures with me in Chicago so you will be able to see them in the flesh so to speak. Once the company overall. and then the range gains commitment, we will expand. Little acorns :cool:

All the best for now,

Malcolm. :salute::
