Are there any obscure figures (from a certain era, nation, etc.) you'd like to see put into plastic? Don't think in terms of popularity or profit - just your own preference. Personally, as a St. Augustine aficionado, I think Spanish colonial soldiers from the 1700s would be neat, and would also love "Sand Pebble"-era U.S. sailors.

The coolest plastic playset that will never be produced because no one but me would buy it....

Wallachia vs. Ottoman Empire with a Vlad the Impaler (The historical Dracula) character figure. It would come complete with both armies, a castle, Ottoman tents, and big Impaling poles with figures attached.

Morbid, but it would make for an awesome set up!!

I love this period but I'm afraid I would only buy it in painted metal. They would be some beautiful figures though. Some great personalities besides Vlad at that time.

Even though I collect metal, I sometimes will stray into plastic, so I would want a Blackhawk Down playset with US Army Rangers, Delta Force, Little Birds, Blackhawks, Humvees, and then Somali militia!:) Plus plenty of buildings!

Seconded mate.

I've seen them in metal, but I'd like to see troops of the Mexican Adventure. Maybe a "Cinco De Mayo" Battle of Puebla set with a side order of Camerone.

CTS cobbled together a Battle of New Orleans set but it's made up of odds and ends that don't really fit.

Of course a few favorites of mine. The Crimean War (AIP has started that)

The Franco-Prussian War with a side order of the Commune.

Why not a Les Miserables set with a barricade, French troops, Students, and Victor Hugo's character figures?

Barzso made a Battle of New Orleans.

Thanks! I forgot. It's waaaay too expensive for me. I have most of the troops from the set and it's tough to get the scope of the battle with it for the price and Barszo figures are beautiful but fragile.

I'm thinking Marx Playset type sets. Sturdy and "playable" with a bit better historical accuracy. A step above BMC playsets would be good as well but I do like some of their buildings.

Well, you can go for TSSD's new Custer set, that should be durable. It also sounds quite impressive from the list of contents.

The only thing is that the Civil War and The Little Big Horn (Wild West/ Fort Apache) are pretty common.

Well, maybe the wild west and Fort Apache was covered extensively, but I think there were quite a few holes to be filled with Custer. From the contents list of the TSSD set, it looks like they will cover this battle as it never has been covered before. I know I put in my pre-order.

Having Custer in the CW or in fights before The Little Big Horn would be different.

Open ended play! While the Alamo and Little Big Horn have a decided historical one battle finish, the seem to be popular as subjects.

A historical playset should have open ended possibilities other than the outcome of the war the set is based on. A World War II set covers the scope of the war as does a Civil War set. Even a "Gettysburg" set allows for both sides to win part of the time and the troops can be used for other battles as they are not Gettysburg specific.

One could add in other variables that could change the result, say for instance the reinforcements arrived from Goliad and now there's 600+ defenders instead of 189, Custer doesn't split his force sand the baggage train arrives.

Well sure. Fight the battle where the Texians take Bexar. The "Come and Take It " incident as well. The whole campaign can be fought with small forces, scaled down to "playset" size.

I'd still like to see something "new" with pretty good buildings and accessories. Barszo at least has covered some "odd" American subjects. Getting them priced like the old Marx sets will never happen again.

The only limits are your imagination, so they could be boundless.

Mine is pretty unlimited. Toy Soldiers are very open ended. "Folks Say" that today's action figures are limited to the "story" around them but I have seen my son play with Batman etc around his toy train and cars. (About 15 years ago.) I bought my daughter those nice Papo painted figures and she has no problem mixing Calamity Jane and the Elf princesses, with Maid Marion.

When I was a lot younger, to get mass and scope I added allies for my Marx Civil War armies from my then limited but growing knowledge of history. The British Highlanders and Indians aided the Confederacy and the French Foreign Legion aided the Union. (both blue)

My original comment on open ended play was that two of the favorite play set options seem to be The Alamo and The Little Big Horn with historical set endings. I'm hoping for new sets or ranges in something we haven't seen yet.

I like your idea about Dracula against the Ottoman Turks. I would like to see some janniseries.

I would do a Zealots set to defend Masada or Jerusalem against the pending Conte Romans (other current Romans just don't do it for me - Timpo swoppets aside) (in days past I'd have liked to see Swoppet Saracens and Mongols). The other is Jacobites. A good metal range by John Jenkins is out now. Perhaps these might issued in plastic like the Rangers and Indians?

In Colonial times - NZ Maories would be very distinctive and could be used with all the Zulu British figures. And why are there no 'mutineers'?
