Like said on the "classifieds" thread, where I had these sets up for sale, I changed my mind and do have to keep them now :redface2: :smile2:
Once I took them out of their boxes and had a good look at them, they are just too nice to let go.
The only thing is that they probably lead to a search now for more and more of them to establish a Delhi Durbar collection.
Here are some photos of the set 08956 (Duke and Duchess of Connaught on State Elephant).
That is one great piece of work.

Here are some pics of the other Elephant, set no. 40184 (The Maharajah of Bikanir's State Elephant) and in the last picture you see it together with set no. 40185 (The Bikanir Camel Corps).
I sure will be looking for more of the older Britains Delhi Durbar sets in the future.

You are lucky I didn't have the cash when you first posted these Konrad. very nice sets and look forward to seeing your Durbar collection grow.

Hi Konrad,

This series is my favorite one without a doubt! I have the entire series including the Amphitheater and I am always on the hunt for other glossy sets to add to the display. I hope you have some luck in hunting down the rest of the series. They do come up on ebay pretty regularly so you should be able to get most of them pretty quickly. But there are a few sets that are extremely difficult to find. I put a list on one of the older Durbar threads of the entire series with set numbers so you should be able to find it and have a reference. If you cant find it let me know and I will send it to you via email or PM.

Best of Luck in hunting down the rest of these beauties!

Dave

Hi Dave,
thanks for the photos of your glossy Britains Durbar items.
Those are wonderful sets and I will take my time to add them to my collection as opportunities come up.
Recently I got one more set, the Viceroy's Bodyguards, and I put them along with the Duke and Duchess of Connaught's State Elephant.
I think it was the best series they have done during the Britains/Ertl time.

Hi Konrad: I think the workmanship and painting, especially on the elephants is some of their best. The other two elephant sets and some more figures are packed because of a lack of space. There more closeups in my album four.

Very nice addition to your Durbar Konrad. Do you still have your matte Durbar pieces?

Tommy,
what a treat it is, looking through your albums.
A magnificient collection.

Yes, Scott, I still have the matte pieces. I am waiting for the Emblembearers of Cutch to come in June and I still have to add the mounted Lord Kitchener.

I am looking forward to those as well as the buildings.

Tommy- do you mind me asking- how many figures are in your Durbar display? Didn't know if this is some kind of shock and awe (which i believe it is) or perhaps some trick with propping a mirror up behind it all {sm4}

Thanks
CC

159 and the pavillion. The mirrows and lighting make it seem more.

Just received a new "gem" to add to my Durbar collection.
Thanks to fellow forum member MapleLeaf, I was able to get the more rare Elephant "8848", which he had offered in the forum's Classifieds.
I am very happy to have this one now, :smile2:, and here are a few photos of this fine set.

Very nice set Konrad. Your Durbar collection is growing with finding older sets. Nice work. J

Hi Konrad,

Outstanding! I am very pleased that your Durbar collection is growing. The 8848 Elephant is an excellent addition to your collection. As you know, the 8848 Elephants are a bit difficult to find and I congratulate you on a wonderful purchase! You did very well.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :smile2:

Thanks guys :smile2:
And Scott, you sure are right.
The forum is a great place to be and the classifieds do over a lot of good opportunities.
Konrad
