well i know the red sox vs. the yankees is more hyped up, but my team is baltimore and i predict we will win at least two of three games this weekend against the yankees, were young, not over paid, and not to cocky but enough to know we can compete this year!! check with me in two months..ha!!...sammy

Great prediction.;) Another transplanted Os fan eh. I try to keep up and saw them crush the Yankees at home late last season, most enjoyable. I used to watch them at home in the old Brooks Robinson / Dave Palmer years; a bit frustrating mostly since then.

Hey Guys

Glad to see some optimistic O's fans. Lets talk in October. Till then The Yankees Rock!

Didn't the Orioles set the major league record for worst start ever?

Seriously, I must congratulate Baltimore for building Oriole Park. After all of the ugly concrete O's that were built around the country, starting with the Astrodome, Camden Yards was a breath of fresh air.

As a Phillies fan, I say, without hesitation: I hated Veterans Stadium. Even as a kid, I thought that it was impersonal, unhuman, and a bad place to watch ball games. I hated the Astroturf, the cement, and the nosebleed seats.

When I was 6, I got to see a Phillies-Cardinals game at old Connie Mack Stadium (formerly Shibe Park), and the memory always stuck with me. The grandstand; the steel beams that obstructed some views, but also the really cool huge rivets, the kind my uncles all worked with here in Bethlehem; the green grass of the field; parking on Lehigh Street, right near where we sat in the stands; the uniforms-it was the last year that the Phils wore the white and red pinstripes that they had worn since 1950, that great season. In short, it was baseball, the way all these old-timers talk about and write about, and I got to see it, in its last year before the big, impersonal Vet opened, and the Phils started wearing those stupid, goofy, good-for-color-TV-and-nothing-else powder blue and burgundy uniforms.

When they finally tore down that place, I danced for joy. And now, we have a nice park in which to see games. The highest seats are actually farther from the field than the top row in the old Vet, and you still think that you're closer to the game.

So we all owe the Orioles a debt of gratitude for building their park.

Anyway, go Phils! 3 over .500, with the first winning April in a couple of years. Here's hoping this carries forward to the rest of the season.

Prost!

I guess you and I are old enough to remember Connie Mack Stadium. Was there a couple of times. Did you ever get to the Polo Grounds. I saw it when it was in its faded glory, two year before the Mets left it. Only old Yankee Stadium had outfield dimensions like that.

No, I never made it up there to see the Polo Grounds, but those are the kind of places to play a ball game. There, or in the thousands of small town parks, with little wooden grandstands, or even bleachers. My hometown, Harleysville, had one, so does Quakertown, where I used to live. That park is shared by the Legion team and by the Atlantic Collegiate League's Blazers.

To me, there are few things more American than that.

Prost, Brad!

Sliding into 3rd place now, 1 game behind Boston:mad: and Tampa:rolleyes:
Still early but starting to look like thier usual season.:(

The Os are not really that good so this should be expected. They have some serious rebuilding to do but they appear to have a good front office in place. On the other hand, the Rays may be the real thing, if not this year, but then in near future. They have a lot of good talent.

LOL, that has been true for over a decade. They have not been over .500 since 1997.:( Attendance has been trending downward, with good reason, since then as well. Except for 89 and 97, they haven't really been competitive since 1983. Bring back the late 60s to early 80s;)

oh well, the wailing has finally come to a bitter end for my orioles, a season that started so brightly ended with another flop, i thought how funny this thread looked months ago now, but were a young team, we will be back one day ....one year.....one decade...you get the point....sammy

Another flop for my team too. Can't wait till Spring Training however.
