I always liked it as well.

So did the Tiger crews that they often supported in anti-infantry and anti-antitank role.

I think this was their main role in North Africa and would go great with the Desert Tiger

The Panzer III Ausf N with the short barrel 75mm gun was not produced until mid 1943 and would have been painted in Dunkelgleb not Panzergrau. One possibility is that a new turret was dropped onto an older hull and the turret was painted to match. A lot of older hulls were upgraded by turret replacements with the 50mm L60 gun. A tank museum has a Panzer III Ausf H hull with a 50mm L60 gun late turret. The Germans did a lot of mix and match when repairing Panzers. Several refurbished Tiger I Panzers had late production hulls and early production turrets. Whatever works as we used to say in engineering!

The first Panzer III with the short barrel 75mm gun were produced from July 1942 to Oct 1942 and were grey. These 450 Ausf. N used up the 450 short barrel 75mm left over when the the Panzer IV production switched to a long barrel gun. These Ausf. N were to be a single production run only and were produced on the Ausf. L chassis with a P.III turret modified to take the short barrel gun. It was later decided to continue Ausf. N production in 1943 using Ausf. M chassis with the modified turret. This run of Ausf. N were painted in the yellow base colour.

Excellent pic's Rob and hopefully a DAK version of this tank will be produced and at around the same cost.

Interesting how this armor and crewmen supported the infantry. Reading a small Osprey book about it now.

you have took so many great pictures!!!
Thanks Enrico, I'm planning some new shots with this tank very soon.

Always appreciate the historic info Terry.

Thanks Tom; would love to see a DAK version (with long barrel).

Thanks for the new information Terry. My resources cited mid 1943 production of the Ausf. N.
I had read they had problems fitting the short 75 into the Panzer III turret and that they were not resolved until 1943. Obviously not correct!
