Don't know if anyone has posted about this, so I would like to bring this movie to the attention of we "western" fans. The movie "The Proposition" is a Australian frontier movie of the highest order, set in the late 19th century. It stars Ray Winstone and Guy Pearce and was shot in 2005. This is one one the grittiest westerns I have ever seen. Winstone plays the local law, who is after a killer who massacred a family. Winstone captures the killer's two brothers, and releases one of them, Pearce, to go hunt down and kill his brother, while holding the youngest brother hostage, under threat of a Christman Day execution if Pearce doesn't kill the murderous brother. This is a gruesome, brutal, realistic film, but it is a really good show. All takes place on the Australian frontier/outback and the atmoshere is very well conveyed. -- Al

Shame on me as i have yet to se this!...Thanks for the reminder Lancer.

Oh my gawd. A fellow Proposition devotee. In my spare room hangs a 2 x 1.5 metre cinema poster of this very film. The script is simply superb and looking forward to catching Lawless from the same team. Brutal, poignant, and just magnificent. Top ten film for me.

Oh, Peggy Gor-don, you are my darling. Come sit ye down, upon my knee.....

It is a great movie. Pity it isn't more well known. The performances are flawless and Winstone the best of them all. -- Al

Some great lines in there, quite a few from John Hurt. "What is an Irishman but a beeeeeeep turned inside out"
