Expanding on the Frontline thread here are several books on von Richthofen that are pretty indespensible. Bio's-1- "Richthofen" by A.E. Ferko published by Albatros Productions Ltd. in 1995. Illus., brief and accurate. 2- "The Red Knight Of Germany" by Floyd Gibbons pub. by Garden City Pub. Co. in 1927. Old, but still the yard-stick of von R bio's. Much detail and original research. 3- "Richthofen: Beyond the Legend of the Red Baron" by Peter Kilduff. Pub. by Wiley in 1993. Good, modern bio. Also, on the subject of von R's death, 1-"Who Killed The Red Baron?" by P.J. Carisella & James Ryan. Pub. by Daedalus Pub. Co. in 1969. Excellent study with much original research and conclusions. 2- "The Red Baron's Last Flight" by Franks and Bennett. Pub. by Grub Street in 1997. Well illustrated and researched, this is the best on the subject IMO. Lastly, from the viewpoint of the Baron himself are the many editions of his translated "The Red Airfighter". This book contains his thoughts, opinions and insights into his time as a war pilot. Very important work. These are all well known books to people in the field of WW1 aviation but newcomers should start with these. All readable and well done. -- lancer
