The Rising Sun....the Australian Army Slough Hat Badge....the change in the design since 1902 to 1991......This badge was worn during both world wars.....some time after WW2 ...Corp Badges were issued modeled on the Brit Army badges and the only time I ever wore a Rising Sun was during recruit training at Kapooka....after Recruits I was issued with my corp badge... RAR ....and wore that badge until I change corps in the later part of my time in the army ....I have noticed on TV these days the Rising Sun is now worn by all Corps on the upturned... LH side ...of the Slough hat ( Hats...Khaki...fur Felt....why is the hat upturned on the left....for the purpose of rifle drill...you shouldered arms on the Left shoulder...if the hat brim was down...you would knock your hat off)....the Corp Badge is now worn center front attached to the hat band (Pugaree).....both badges are now worn on the slough hat..interesting to note...on version six the 7 pointed star ....I think the star has something to do with Federation ( this star is also featured on the Aust Active Service Medal) and has now been replaced again by the Crown...1991 version...the wording on the badges scrolls.....1904...Aust Commonwealth Military Forces.....1949...Aust Military Forces and the shorter wording on the 1991 badge...The Aust Army.....Righto..I can not guarantee all info is correct but it is pretty well spot on......when they started wearing two badges on the old Fur Felt I do not know...was after my time.... the Rising Sun is now turned full circle...it is now worn by all corps as it was in both world wars......to my knowledge......just a bit of badge history..has anyone a story to tell about their National or corp badge ?,,,,,TomB![Rising Sun.jpg Rising Sun.jpg](https://forum.treefrogtreasures.com/data/attachments/106/106246-0d80b2f8ca77c61097d16e1a2306d9e3.jpg)
