THE ROCKETEER---Walt Disney Pictures "sequel/reboot" with a "modern-day twist" underway to its 1991 movie that starred Billy Campbell, Jennifer Connelly and Timothy Dalton. The new movie, titled THE ROCKETEERS, is set six years after the original movie in which Cliff Secord defeated the Nazis, and is described as:
"An unlikely new hero emerges: a young African–American female pilot, who takes up the mantle of Rocketeer in an attempt to stop an ambitious and corrupt rocket scientist from stealing jetpack technology in what could prove to be a turning point in the Cold War."

JONNY QUEST---FORBES magazine has seen the script for the Warner Bros. live action movie based on the 1964 Hanna-Barbera animated tv series. It says the movie is faithful to the original series and is based on episodes from the series.
Among the movie's elements are: Race Bannon is an elite government agent/adventurer. Hadji is in the movie and his origin story is connected to the movie's main plot. Jade has a past history with Bannon, but has questionable loyalties. Robot arachnids and jet packs are featured.
Idris Elba, Bradley Cooper and Will Smith are being considered for the Bannon role.

Big fan of both these shows, in their original forms. Don't know if these reboots will 'fly'. -- Al

I'm becoming quite the curmudgeon these days. I have no interest in either of these. I'll stick with the originals.

Prost!

I'm a huge Jonny Quest fan, watched the reruns religiously as a kid, and have the entire original series on DVD, will definitely check out the movie.^&cool

There are few cartoons that I watched as a kid, that I enjoy now. But Jonny Quest is still fantastic. Every episode is good and full of action. However, for years, I've been wondering how I would like "Top Cat". I used to love it growing up and have never seen it since.

Top Cat was a ritual for my brother and I as we ate our cereal every morning, before heading off to school. Been over 50 years since I've seen it but remember it fondly. I would then race home after school to watch "Highway Patrol" as it started about 5 minutes after the dismisal bell. -- Al

I'm holding out for the PC remake of Secret Squirrel and Morocco Mole. Have to admit that I like the daddy long legs at the beginning of Johnny Quest but thought Race was a bit strange.

When do Clutch Cargo and Fireball XL-5 get their remakes? -- Al

If "Clutch Cargo" were to get done as a live-action film, I wonder if they would still superimpose the mouths over the actors' faces, so that no matter which way a character faces, his mouth is pointed to the camera.

Prost!

Every once in a while, on Cartoon Network they play the opening sequence from "Top Cat" or a snippet from Secret Squirrel and Morocco Mole. The used to play Jonny Quest Episodes every weekday, which is hom my kids got hooked and got me watching it again.

My favorite JQ episode was Shadow of the Condor, which had Race in a Spad 13 battling the bad guy in a Fokker D-7. What a surprise, eh? Ther are JQ episodes and docs all over youtube. -- Al

I remember that episode. One of my favorites was the one where JQ was going through a swamp on a boat and there was all these bad guys on sniper platforms.

Al,

I love the Shadow of the Condor episode, its one of my favorites. There is another episode, called The Devils Tower, where Race and Dr. Benton Quest fly in a vintage biplane, a De Haviland Tiger Moth, to the top of a mountain in Africa to attempt to recover a hot air balloon with experimental equipment on board, and run into Nazi War Criminal who has taken control of a tribe of surviving cave men.

JQ is a great show. I remember the energy monster episode that was directly lifted from the energy monster in 'Forbidden Planet'. Been a long time since I've watched them. It is the perfect follow-up show to kids who read the many Tom Swift books. -- Al

Always enjoyed Jonny Quest. Every episode was fun and action packed. Didn't they do a new JQ show in the late 90's or early 2000's? How was it, compared to the show we all grew up with?

The show in the late 90's was awful. The classic Jonny Quest from 1965 is worlds better. I hope the movie is based on the original.

I forgot to mention that if I had a son, I wanted to name him Race, but I ended up with 3-daughters. So I tried nicknaming my youngest daughter Scout from To Kill a Mockingbird, but she didn't like it.
