Marcus Pomponius of Ala Augusta Gallorum Petriana, Seconded as a Scout for Agricola is returning to Deva with news, splashing across a shallow river he smells burning food coming from a nearby round house, as he approaches he cannot spot life other than a dog sitting outside.
He dismounts whence the dog walks over to the house. Marcus follows him in and is shaken to the core by what he sees. He searches a nearby Celtic village and finds it empty.
Remounting he gets upon his way, when a short time later he comes to a Villa, with the gates wide open and again no one in sight. He explores the Villa and once again come across the owners as before at the Round house, all beheaded.
