All,

This documentary is on Showtime which tells the true story of two corrupt NYC cops who stole, robbed and heisted the ghettos of the 75th precinct as a second source of income. Then eventually becoming employed by Adam Diaz a notorious Dominican Republican drug lord for a $24,000 down payment and $8000 a week.

The doc is incredible, unbelievable and stunning to hear Michael Dowd speak so frankly about his crimes...as a cop. I was overseas during the 1990's, I did not hear of this story, but the documentary certainly put you back at that time. It is a great documentary and wonderfully done.

I read the book that also tells the story, can't think of the name. I have been waiting to see this and found it on Showtime this week.
In my 40 years on the job, especially my 30 with the St Louis PD I seen some things that let's say I turned a blind eye to, but absolutely nothing like this.
I would like to say more but unless you walked the walk you may not understand.

Great doc. It is really engrossing and well worth the watch. -- Al

This was really good.Hard to believe how bad it was in NY.

I have heard Frank Serpico interviewed a couple of times; he stated that basically all his NYPD coworkers were corrupted and on the take.

I have always been fascinated with the NYPD. I have read as many books, watched documentories as I could find. Yes back years ago the coppers were not saints for sure.
But from everything I have learned now they are the most strict department in the country. One instance that shows what I'm talking about a NYPD officer ordered and paid for an ice cream cone, the clerk added an extra scoop of ice cream for free. Some one told IAD (Internal Affairs) and the officer was disciplened over one scoop of free ice cream that he did not even ask for!
Just ask some old time NYPD cop what he thinks of Frank Serpico and there are not enough curse words in the english dictionary to describe how they feel about him.

I've watched this about five times now, it's incredible, unbelievable, extremely well done. What Dowd did and got away with was mind boggling. Like all criminals, eventually he got caught, he got way, way too greedy as his partner said.

Dowd said basically he feels like he did nothing wrong as he was taking money and stealing from drug dealers.

The story he tells about the money they find in a house and how he drives around the block 75 times waiting for "Chicky" to show up and grab the cash is pretty funny. "Chicky" was an NYPD police officer who resigned before things got too hot; when he went in to take the money, he wasn't even a police officer at the time, yet still flashed a badge to get into the apartment.

It's worth a watch, that is for sure.

The deported drug dealer that Dowd worked for was quite a character, also. He still thinks well of Dowd, even after it all went south. Also, as bad as Dowd was, he never ratted out his fellow officers. Too bad he didn't apply that sense of honor to being a good cop. -- Al

Gary,

Say no more as I wore a shield for some years in the Military. I could not believe what I was watching and like I said I was absent from the US when all this happened in the 1990's (or at least we he got caught). It is absolutely stunning what Dowd got away with and murder was next...just like what happened (or did not happen) at the end.

Shocking to say the least. I need to watch it again because I believe I missed some things because I was not prepared to process what I was watching.

If you got 3 hours with nothing to do go to You Tube and search "Joe Rogan Experiance #707 Michael Dowd"
Dowd is interviewed for 3 hours and he tells story after story. Dowd was a scumbag and disgrace to law enforcement but to be honest after watching this you can't help likeing him.
