Hi guys since there has been no official announcement from First Legion I thought I would post the shots from the website and some of the text so guys who may have missed it could have a look . Regards Gebhard

First Legion is very pleased to announce that our latest figure will be the Seven Years War! Fought from 1756 through 1763, the war involved most of the major world powers and was fought not only in Europe, but throughout their various colonial holdings around the world. Though our intent with the range is to cover the European part of the conflict in detail, we have decided to start off with the Battle of Kunersdorf fought on August 12th 1759 between the Prussians and a combined Austro-Russian Army . It may seem strange to cover the greatest defeat of Frederick the Great, certainly the finest military mind of the age, but we feel that the battle offers a variety of interesting troops, attacks and counterattacks, and cavalry charges by both sides. It was a battle that Frederick had won in the morning, but then lost in the afternoon as he continued to press the attack despite the protests of his generals through poor terrain, against strong allied positions, and in extremely hot weather. The Prussian attacks finally ground to a halt due to a combination of fierce resistance and the thirst and exhaustion of the Prussian troops and the allies counterattacked and the Prussian army came apart, virtually dissolving. Our initial launch for the range is the 7th Prussian Line Infantry Regiment Braunschweig-Bevern presented in march attack formation. Seydlitz and the Prussian Cuirassiers will certainly make an appearance as will various Austrian and Russian infantry, cavalry, and artillery units as well. The figures previewed below will be available for pre-order in July 2012. We sincerely hope you enjoy them!

Ah, I was wondering how long before another maker hopped on the SYW bandwagon. Very nicely done, and I see that they got the moustache thing right. ;)

The detail is very good, it reminds me of the catalog images from MiniWelt's SYW line. These FL figures would probably mix well with the MiniWelt kit figures, too.

Prost!

These are some great looking figures and I anticipate this will be a popular range for First Legion. One question though. What is the item under the left arm of the NCO? It looks like a cane or something along those lines.

Good eye, Noah, you are correct. Officers, both commissioned and non-commissioned, carried sticks as one sign of their authority. NCOs had canes made of cane, "Spanisches Rohr" in German, while officers usually had a stick of hardwood, like ash.

When carrying his half-pike, though, the NCO would usually hang his cane from the top button on his right breast.

Prost!

Thanks for the informative answer Brad. So, essentially, it was a sign of rank, somewhat analogous to the vitus of the Roman centurions. That is great stuff. I love that First Legion includes little details like this.

Now I can tell my wife I learned something from my time on the board today!

These are wonderful....

Looks like the 7YW is building up with makers, with Frontline and John Jenkins starting the move.

Looking forward to more troops coming our way in the future.

Yes, they do look much like Minwelt, but I wonder what the size is like? maybe its the rectangular base?

John

FL uses 1/30 scale, don't they?

Prost!

Hallo Brad ,
Glad to see you noticed this thread , for scale this link is helpful very http://www.firstlegionltd.com/scale.aspx . I was very suprised your comparison to the fine kit figures of the SYW from Miniwelt to read ..not a company name you hear often on TF. You wouldn't be another visitor to that nice TS shop in Berlin would you ? :wink2: . I plan on stoping by again this year in September when in Potsdam for the 300th . I like their figures and think they are well sculpted and plan on picking up a few more when there .. a certain mounted figure is in order I think . The kits are pretty reasonable priced but thier painted figures are a bit to high for me for the quality , I have a good friend who is much better IMO and hope to have him paint them for me when and if he has time .
I had hope that First Legion would cover the SYW and now that they are I'm wondering how I will add these figures to my collection , may have to give up some of their other lines to make room . . This line if done the way FL have thier other lines shows very much promise . I think they will do a beautiful job and by the looks of it are of to a wonderful start.. Prosit Gebhard

I am slightly surprised of the choice of troops as for many they will look close to the AWI range. I could imagine acceptance in Anglo-Saxon collector circles would be higher with some Prussian grenadiers.

Servus, Gebhard! I'm a customer of Scholtz, but only online, I haven't had the opportunity to visit the store in person.

I have 1 MiniWelt kit, a Prussian cavalry adjutant, which I started years ago but never quite finished. That's a good idea, to buy the kits for your collection and get your friend to paint them. One very nice feature of the MiniWelt line is the number of personality figures they include, which look pretty good, compared to contemporary portraits.

Along with the John Jenkins and Frontline Prussians, I may have to start collecting these FL figures, too.
