I have just received the new set RR-06 Prince Roger's Servant. My namesake Charles (Jenkins) looks at the newcomer from top to bottom.
I did not know we were slowly changing from 60mm to 54mm... just to know.
Really I like more the old sturdy builds!

if the 2 muskets are the same size, then the figure is just smaller in stature.... different people, different builds

I can confirm the rifle is the same size, so he is just a smaller guy.
Risorgimento I'm with you on the bigger builds of JJD figs, I did a little googling and information on the Prince seems rare and possibly jumbled with other black rangers...
I did find this; (which puts Prince at 5'5), however I think I will think of this figure as an adolescent.

This is from "The Annotated and Illustrated Journals of Major Robert Rogers" edited by Tim Todish, illustrations by Gary Zaboly.

"...Robert Rogers' brother James put the following advertisement in The Boston Post-Boy of November 22, 1762:

'Ran away from me the Subscriber at Londonderry, in the Province of New Hampshire, on the 18th of September, a Negro Man Servant named Prince about 40 Years of Age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, speaks good English, had on when he went away a green Coat, blue plush Breeches, diaper Jacket, several pair of thread Stockings with him; he looks very serious and grave, and pretends to be very religious: He is the property of Major Rogers nad has been several Years to the Westward, and pretends to be free.'

Prince had first run away from Major Rogers in 1760*, and one must wonder if the Ranging life with his active and famous master had proved too much for him." pg. 316-7

*[footnote= As reported in The Boston Weekly Post-Boy of April 28, 1760, which noted only he was "meanly dressed."]

"Boston Burn, a black slave belonging to James Burn of Westford, Massachusetts, served as a Ranger in the 1758 campaign." pg. 16

I suppose John is trying to keep the figure as historically realistic as possible...but James...without your research telling me he was only a meager 5' 5" tall in real life...I might have been disappointed when I received him...

I think I might have preferred him historically incorrect in size...in other words...the same size as the rest of the Rangers...

I'm not a "rivet counter"...so if he were scaled to the same height as the other Rangers...I would never have complained that he should have been shorter...

either way...he's fine with me...

poor John...he tries his best to replicate a historically correct rendition of Prince...he's danged if he does and danged if he doesn't...I intend to get him...he's been ordered already...

I like the difference in the sizes of the figures. As the gun lenghts are similar, I have no problem with this figure. Besides after the new mortar wagon arrives, finding room on the RoSF shelf will be nearly impossible, so I am glad he is short!!!!!

When I first saw this figure when it was announced I have to say that I felt it looked flat. No character or life to it as most of John's figures have. I loved the face, but the pose looked a bit weak.

Seeing him next to the other figure changes things. His pose now looks like he is apprehensive about going on. I do like that he is smaller, though in scale. I like variety in heights as long as they are in scale with the equipment and the rest of the range.

Thanks for the picture, I am going to have to rethink getting him.

When I saw Carlo's thread I was a little dismayed, as I really like the romantic idea of Rogers Rangers and am collecting them, hence my meagre research and the 5'5 bit. (Am sure being a ranger was far from romantic!!! but hey, I sit at a desk all day)
I do actually agree with Carlo and Mike, bigger might have been better.
However I unpacked mine last night and added him to my Rangers, Matthew is right, he really looks extremely uncomfortable next to the other hardier types! He looks unconfident and like he'd rather be somewhere else, in the end I do feel he makes a great addition.
But looking at the 'Duke' reminded me of the combat pairs, from snowshoes and the Jacobite rebellion, and it made me realise how much I like these sets! Now, when do we get more like them!

Yes, we need more rangers. I am planning a raid in late December and I only have 6 rangers ready for action. If I bring along regulars they will just slow us down. Maybe I can press some Fraizers (??) light infantry Scottsmen into helping. They are trained and reliable.

Hopefully the French don't catch wind of this attack.

We need another two figure ranger set.
