28mm (1:48 scale) Sudanese Village buildings, set up for pics, not layed out for war gaming use.

Exact copies of some 15mm buildings I made.

To go bigger than 1:48, like for 1:35 or 1:32, I think you need to switch from 3/8" foam board, to 1/2" foam board. Even with spackle, paint and over coating, 3/8" just looks too thin for 54mm, while 1/2" looks great, and is actually easier to work with, scribe, and finish.

If anyone's interested, I can show how to crank out, I mean fast, this type of building, to any standard of detail and quality.

agreed...
I have never used 3/8"...I build for 60mm and use 1/2"...
in fact...
I have never seen 3/8"...
down here we only have 1/2" and 1"...
I use 1" sometimes...
on fort walls because it is thicker...
occasionally we have 3"...
but it's to expensive to be practical...

My bad, I didnt mean 3/8", I meant 3/16", which is the standard foam board.

3"? Do you mean blue or pink foam, sold as insulation in 4x8' sheets? When I say foam board, I mean the poster sized sheets, of foam with a layer of poster board on each side. Man, I'd LOVE to get some 3" foam board! :)

I think we are talking about 2 totally different materials...

blue board and pink board...is industrial sheathing...

it's referred to from modelers as foam board...

I guess that is why I never heard of 3/8"...^&grin

Thought I found the pot of gold a few months ago. From a friend who demo'd and rebuilt a hotel after the hurricane.
About TWENTY 4x8 sheets of 3" yellow foam (like the blue and pink).

I put them in my garage, cut off a section to test carve, and notice it is very brittle and "crumbly", and my arms are stingy, like I've been messing with fiberglass. Like Ive been rolling in piles of fiberglass. . Turns out, the stuff is called "DenseBoard" or "DenseGlass" or something. Looks and feels just like insulation foam, but is in fact some unGodly concoction from the Dow Chemical Corp, so toxic and so hazardous, a contractor friend said he wouldnt go near the stuiff, much less carve it. Basically pure fiberglass made into a cotton candy like form and compressed.

Dont eat the yellow foam!

Yes I'd be interested for one to see how you produce your buildings in the photo.

I'll convert into message board form, and post. Its actually pretty simple and quick. But REAL hard on exacto blades :( Until I got a Dremel attachment sharpener, I was going through so many, I should have bought the company.
