I was honored today with a visit from the man himself, John Jenkins, who popped by the museum today, had lunch with me at Bryant & Cooper (I know, I fell off the diet wagon, but the steakhouse cheeseburger was soooooo worth it!), and dinner with my family.

John unveiled for me the painted master of his new "Death of Gordon" vignette, based on the famous painting of the same subject. Luckily for me, he had brought two, in case one got damaged in transit, and rather than lug them both home to Hong Kong, he generously donated one to me for the museum. Gordon Pasha stands at the top of a flight of stairs with two attendants. Three Answar (followes of the Mahdi, commonly referrred to as "Mahdists") lunge up the stairs to overwhelm him, while an Answar standard bearer and two others gather at the base of the stairs to watch his demise. On a scale of 1-10, it is about a 12.:cool::cool::cool:

I was also permitted a peak at the first painted resin master of one of the new Gordon Highlanders for the Sudan. It was freakin' sweat!!!:cool:

John told me of plans to make a square with one side fighting Gordons and the other Royal Marines, the corner of which would be Naval Brigade Gatling Gun. The square would be attacked by various Answar "Mahdists", including Hadendowa Beja Warriors (Kiplings "Fuzzy Wuzzies" - "they bruck a British Square"). There would also be marching troops, camel corps, and - wait for it - a Gunboat!!!

I also had a chance to drool all over the upcoming "hand to hand" Jacobite sets, each with one Highlander fighting up close and personal against a different British Grenadier or a British Officer. There is also a second Jacobite standard bearer (this time with a cool striped flag). Fellow Jenkins addicts, we will have a very good 2010!!!;)

Very nice of John and great addition for your collection:)

I guess I won't get to see them on Sunday as I was hoping to do and take some photos for the Forum, in addition to the ones on the thread already started by Randy. Guess I will just wait until they come out next year. Oh, well.

Sure you can - there were two sets of masters, and he gave me one and kept one to display at Jim Hillestad's on Saturday and the show on Sunday.:)

They sound great , I,ve never seen a Jenkins figure first hand
but with both him and britains entering this realm I,m realy looking
forward to seeing his Gordon higlander in particular to try and decide which
range to follow .

Thanks Louis. I was reading the Forum at a break during the 25th Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Concert at MSG (which was fabulous) and read your post quickly.

This may be the line that gets me to buy John's products.

being spoilt for choice will be a fine thing :).

Believe the striped flag to be the Cameron standard. -- lancer

Hi Van,

personally I have no doubt on matter: John Jenkins work is the most impressive I have ever seen and that's true not only for the Sudan range but in general.
