Soviet radios were powered by American-made vacuum-tubes. They didn't have the tech to make their own of any quality.

I get the joke GLW, and really like the pictures. I do think it is an interesting topic to see the scale of what was provided by the economies and military industrial complexes of the Western Allies.

Two things this made me think of:

  1. That the majority of those trucks were 4x6 or 6x6 and were the best for traversing the Russian snow and mud with the highest payload. They made a huge difference in allowing the Soviet Juggernaut to function.
  2. That much of the Soviet truck and 4x4 fleet were copies of the trucks above and the jeeps.
  3. That even with all of this output, the US economy was primarily responsible for supplying the material for D-Day in Europe and then 8 days later launched a similar operation on the other side of the world in invading Saipan. Mind boggling.

Thanks for the thought provoking and well laid out vignettes!
