I emailed the seller with the info that these were not Imperial Productions made figures, but his response gave me to understand that he is insistent. Something about buying them over 25 years ago and having the original box.

Anyway, his timetable is way off (Imperial did not start producing ACW sets until 1990 and these are clearly not Imperials.

Since it is largely my fault that no current Imperial Productions catalog exists yet, I figured to alleviate my guilt some by posting this here.

Cheers,
D

To my intermediate eye they look like Imperial to me. Bases are right. The Confederates with the ke[is look right. The painting seems to be Imperial Standard. So can you tell me what is wrong with them. Timeline not withstanding?

If he has the box, he should note that in his auction description. That kind of omission drives me nuts. I've seen so many auctions, too, where the seller does a nice job of describing the paint, where the figure was found, how long it was kept in a cabinet, etc, but forgets to mention the SIZE of the figure, argh!

Prost!

To be more specific, Imperial did not produce any standing/shooting ACW figures with flopped back hats like that. All of Imperials standing/shooting ACW figures are wearing kepis, both blue and gray.

Secondly, though the pics are hard to see well, there is far too much "facial topography" on these figures to be Imperials. The Imperial faces are far more "traditional" in their features. This is not to say there is no detail, just not as much nose or depressions for the eyes, etc.

Also, it does not appear that these have the "rosy cheeks" of our beloved Imperial figures.

Basically, our collection contains every single ACW figure made by Imperial and these are not among them.

Man! Checking the price... someone really wants these! These are currently priced about $50 higher than other, legitimate boxed ACW Imperial sets have sold for recently. Maybe someone knows that these are even RARER than Imperial figures.

D,
Thanks for the info. Helps identify them a lot. Any ideas on the true identity, if not Imperial? How about the other auction by the same seller for the 12pdr and confederate crew? Just wondering... My Impys are Zulus and Dragoons and Lancers and such.Go Figure:eek:;)Mike

Very good of you to inform,Drum,Thank you.My eye is likely not so good as K.V.'s,and given the foot positioning and bases particularly, was imagining very early issue.o.

All of the other auctions by that seller that were identified as Imperial are legit as far as I am concerned. You will note that the other auctions seem to mention an original box and include pics of same.

As for the true identity, I haven't the foggiest. I know the products of exactly one maker.

Like I said above, they must be known by someone as the bidders have cranked this set higher than the legitimate ACW Imperial sets ever get. Maybe there are some Imperial collectors who have been mislead by the "early" designation as well.

Thanks, Drum, now you've made me curious! I've bookmarked that auction, to see where it ends up.

Someone certainly does want this set very badly, it's currently at $163 (as of 8:15 Eastern).

I sent the seller an eBay message yesterday to ask if he still had the original box, but he hasn't responded, and I don't expect a response now, with only a few hours until the auction ends.

Prost!

I wonder if they might not be some Regal Productions figures. Checking their old website, I do not see any similar looking ACW figures, but I do know that, for a time, Regal was producing near copies of some of Imperial's figures.

I am curious also.

It is at $173.00 now with a little less than 5 hours to go.

Drum What about Mars? They made sets very close to Imperial in quality. Though I had forgot about Regal, another good posibility.

Good suggestion, KV, I'd forgotten about Mars. I have to check my reference materials when I get home tonight, I think Armchair General-the one out of St Louis, MO-used to carry Mars in their catalog. I've got some of their brochures in a binder at home.

Either the bidders know something, or they don't know anything (which is to state the obvious, I guess....)

Prost!

Whatever they are, I wish I had a bunch of them so I could sell them at that price!

;)

As for whether or not they could be Mars, I really could not say. I am a toy soldier neophyte in anything other than Imperial Productions. The only reason that I think I know anything about Regal is because of their "relationship" to Imperial.

That said, I am not embarrassed to admit that I have never seen or even heard of Mars figures.

Thanks in advance for your patience.

:)

No worries Drum. Price is now $203 with 2 hours left! What are these guyS

In regards to the Mars they are almost as nice as Imperial. I will try to post some pictures of them in my Toys album.

I started a new thread in our Imperial forum with some comparison pics.

KV, please keep us posted on what you uncover.

Cheers,
D
