This LCVP is a great match for K&C (1 Viewer)

There was a question of 1/24 being to large a scale for the mahogany LCVP I picked up earlier this month.

I took some shots with K&C DDay landing figures inside the boat to clarify...

Thanks for the photo's Gideon. It looks like a great product and the K&C fig's don't look to out of proportion as far as the soldiers inside. Is the stand a cradle type where the boat can be lifted out or is it permently fixed to the bottom?

Wow thats a great match. All it needs is some weathering.

Yes, it can be lifted out. One thing to consider is that it has a full rudder and proppelar assembly but the base is not fixed. It is drop dead gorgeous.

Oh, and the front gate is hinged - it opens and closes.

Thanks for the great looks Gideon. But you are becoming a problem. Now not only do I have to add on to the house to accomidate a new areodrome, now I have to install an ocean beach front. Thanks Pal. ;) Michael

And, you know, blah blah .... Napoleonic's? :D

 It's not me, no, no, no. It's just that there are so many cool things out there to share...

I was in Gideon's Shop Classic Toys on Friday, and let me tell you, the Higgins Boat is even more impressive in person. Any of you with room for it in your collection, I highly recommend snapping it up. It is of a quality of the original K&C wood & metal vehicles, and would look extremely sharp on a D-Day diorama.

That LCVP does look a pretty good match for the K&C D-Day figures. Alas not everything on 1/24th scale can match up as well as that did. Perhaps its the size ratios, eg if I'm standing beside the Titanic then I wouldn't know whether it was a 1/2 size replica or the full thing given that I'm only 5' 8''.

But for smaller items the scale doesn't work as well: see this (blurry) photo of my Franklin Mint Abrams, 1/24th scale. The K&C guys just look that bit too small. (A tank expert like Easy is probably rolling around with laughter at how much the divergence actually is, but to my untrained eye the difference is slight but noticeable). However, it has certainly made me think about ships, more particularly MTBs and E-Boats.

Regards,
Joe

The figures look really small compared to that tank.

I really think that "scale" is an approximation, an expression to base a model loosley on.

This Higgins boat, which has since been purchased, looked much more in proportion than your FM tank. Again, it's an approximation.

Is K&C really 1/30th? Maybe, sometimes but other times it can approach 1/28th.

I really believe that scale is somewhat relative. Kind of like Forces of Valor. THey are 1/32nd??? Not exactly - more like 1/35th. 1/35th is in the range of 1/32nd just as 1/28th, 1/25th and 1/22.5 are in the general range of 1/24th.

Cheers,

I'd be interested in seeing the K&C LCVP and this one depicted side by side. I bet they wouldn't be too far apart in size. I think Gid is right, lately K&C seems to be more 1/28 or 1/30 then 1/32. If you compare early K&C figures to the present production for size, the new ones are clearly a lot larger.

I have the K&C landing craft and I did compare the two. The K&C piece is smaller but not by too much.

Also, the K&C piece looks much quirkier than the mahogany one. The carved one is a real piece to behold. It is just so precise and meticulously done - you know Lou, you saw it up close. I dare to say that it is even finre than the aircraft.

Its certainly of a quality of the wonderful K&C wood vehicles or aircraft, and might very well be made by the same craftsmen.
