Have seen TLD dozens of times but have never seen Overlord. Will be watching it for sure, along with TLD, again. Just watched Dunkirk and am watching Battle of Britain as I type this. Been a good day on TCM.:wink2: -- Al

I don't recall seeing Overlord either. I saw in the newspaper it was made around the same time as A Bridge Too Far in the seventies.

'Overlord' is indeed a great little movie!
It was made with the cooperation and support of the Imperial War Museum in London and utilised the huge library of WW2 newsreel film the Museum held in its archives.

The director of the film selected the best quality and clearest of the relevant newsreel material and interspersed it with brand-new 'live-action' film to create an amazing and realistic combination.

Budget-wise this was a tiny fraction of a Hollywood epic and the director never had more than about 30 extras and a mere handful of 'real' actors to work with ... but the military detail and 1940's period 'look' of this fine, little movie is excellent!

Highly recommmended....
Best wishes and happy viewing!

Watched "Overlord" last nigh and it was a very good movie!
Same here. I liked it. Sat there and watched the whole thing without realizing it was black and white until the very end. Like The Longest Day, it works very well as a B/W film, especially since the newsreel films are such an important part of the whole feel. -- Al
