In looking at the fine crew assembled for Robin Hood, I happened to notice that Mathew MacFadyen (the Sheriff) will be starring as Athos in the next remake and the first 3D version of the classic Dumas adventure. Joining him will be Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson) as D’Artagnan with Ray Stevenson (Punisher: War Zone) as Porthos and Luke Evans (Clash of the Titans) as Aramis. The delightful villain Mads Mikkelsen will take the role of Rochefort and Milla Jovavich will beguile as the Lady D'Winter. Orlando Bloom will play Buckingham, which either denotes an expanded role for the Duke or a comment on his career. I love all the Musketeer efforts and this one has some promise but it is a little frightening to see that Paul Anderson (Event Horizon, Death Race, Resident Evil) will direct. I certainly hope that is not the direction they are going with this version.

I like the Musketeer movies but hasn't this been done to death? Can't they come up with new stories?Just like classic TV shows, they keep remaking them into movies and tv shows. What made these shows classics mostly were the actors playing the parts. You just can't replace these iconic characters with anybody.Telly Savalas as Kojak,Carroll O'Conner as Archie,James Garner as Maverick,Don Adams as Maxwell Smart,etc.,etc.These actors made these
characters their own.Come on writers come up with something new.

I must beg to disagree on this one Mark. For me, the more Musketeer versions the better; well except for the fairly bad Xiong Xin Xin choreographed version. Classic stories like the Three Musteteers, Zorro, Robin Hood and Ivanhoe never go out of style and deserve periodic fresh treatment IMHO. That is a different matter than re-doing old television, which should never be confused with great literature or even legend, not that any of the re-makes have been worth much.;)

I agree with a periodic remake being good as I love the realism of more modern movies.( love to see a new El Cid) but it seems like the Musketeers have been done over and over.I guess if something is done well enough it doesn't matter. As long it isn't rehashed old tv shows.:D

As much as I love Heston's performance in that role, I would love to see a new version of El Cid as well. Perhaps Pitt or Damon could do it justice with Angelina, Anne Hathaway or Scarlett Johansson as Jimena.

Big Musketeers fan also. It's gonna be hard to beat Gene Kelley's version or harder to beat the Chamberlain-Reed versions. How can you replace Raquel Welch?:D -- Al

You can't replace those, just add to them. Those two are my favorites but I even liked the Charlie Sheen/Oliver Platt version; Tim Curry was a howl and Rebecca De Mornay was sizzling.:D

Even Mickey Mouse's version was fun. Great lines for the adults stuck in there.

The neighbor's have a Barbie version for their 6 year old.
