Just saw this intriguing photo of the above. I wonder if JB is watching...:)

An unusual suspension to play the bass drum. So I've decided to model this figure using spares.

The head is Scalelink, Airfix torso and Heller legs. The latter is in 1/35 scale, good for representing a short figure. The drum casting is Dorset on which I have filed off all strut details.

Fitted the head to the body. The nose was resculpted. The body shape is now being finalised.

The tunic skirt flaps were flared out. The trousers were bulked up. I'll probably trim it down in some areas. It is important to get the basic shape right before the details are added.

The bass drum looks like a lot of work. I estimate 10 rope tensions to be sculpted all round.

Following further shaping and sanding of the figure, I started to add pockets. The drum position was fixed to the figure by means of an inserted wire.
The arms were made from wire and commercial hands were selected and inserted onto the wire stumps. The sleeves were sculpted and further details such as buttons were added. The belt was made from metal strip.

Some areas on the figure were re-sculpted. Work was started on sculpting the drum cords.

I have given the figure a thin wash of khaki undercoat. This highlights any defects which can be rectified later. The drum cords have been sculpted. Now adding the leather stays to the cords.

Figure was given another coat of paint and areas were resculpted. I had started to paint the face when I decided to resculpt the nose.

I painted the figure in matt khaki to highlight more imperfections. The nose has been scrapped off and the face is being resculpted.

Resculpted Valdemar. I had to break the left arm to get at the face. The drum has been given a light undercoat to highlight any defects.

This sculpt is developing into a really interesting figurine, fun to follow this thread looking forward how the final result will turn out.

Hello Wolfgang,

Thanks for your inputs. I like the quirky manner of suspending the bass drum.
I think that I have finalised the face now and have repaired the left arm. I have resumed painting the whole piece.
Colours are a bit of a guesstimate. Light khaki uniform and sunhelmet, probably brown colours for the drum and hoops.

I painted the face on this figure. The uniform was shaded in dark brown. The drum hoops and cords were also shaded in dark brown.

The face was trimmed further and the uniform was painted in light khaki. The drum was epoxied to the figure.

I removed the drum and resculpted the lower jaw and mouth.

The face was painted. The uniform was given a lighter shade and the belt and straps were painted. Buttons and buckles were picked out in silver. The drum was reattached and padded drum sticks were added. The figure was fixed to a suitably arid grassy patch.

It's taken longer than anticipated but I've finally finished this piece. The figure is diminutive and represents another unusual subject matter for my collection.
