A couple of weeks back I posted the first image of my painting of a couple of resin masters that John Jenkins kindly passed onto me, via a mutal friend who attended the Chicago Show. They are of TIC 10 & 11 which have yet to be released.

I painted them, submitted images to John for approval and with a few minor changes he said it was OK to show them off to you as soon as he issued his November Release Statement.

I've been on holidays for 2 weeks, and rushed to post the image of the final figure, but now he's completed, I thought I'd start a new thread just for the greandiers form this particular battle.

I realise that this thread could go into the Painting Area, but as there have been discussions about changing facing to blue, you may wish to see what could be done there, so let me know and I could do a repaint for you :)

Here are the new images, with right and left views.

Brilliant!!!!!

Thanks for the link, I'll be sure to use that because a friend of mine, and fellow collector met up with Joh in HK a couple of weeks back and I've been given another figure from that range, this time a kneeling firing, so thats next on my list of figures to paint.

When he's done I'll show him off to you all, so you can see whats coming in the very near future. They are a wonderful set of figures, and seeing the images from London, I'm even more impressed with the finish of the painted troops.

Obee.........

Is this the figure you have on your painting bench?? On mine as well since Chicago, but unfortunately have not had a chance to start it. I love the way he is knealing on the log.

I admire your paintups of John's work in this series. Keep up the fine work.

Hi whdamon and obee,

First, Obee - really nice work. whdamon - I am sure you do nice work too - just have not seen it yet. :)

But I am curious - how do you get these resin copies? Does John sell them off at the shows so he does not have to ship them back?

I think it's a nice perk for going to the show if you can pick up a resin copy to try your hand at painting.

Sorry if folks already know about this, I'm new to the hobby.

Respectfully,

Matthew

I doubt he is selling them...I think sometimes John just doesn't want to pack up the stuff and take it back home and he gives a few pieces away...it's a good perk and a good promo...;)

Thanks for the insight mikemiller1955 and Fraxinus, I agree that John is one of the nicest guys I have meet. I was running a game at a convention in 2008 with John's figures and he sent me a good luck gift of a British standard bearer. That figure is very special to me and never sees the game table. I gave out a couple of hundred business cards for him that day. And of the three vendors selling Jenkins figures, no one had any Indian sets left. Plus folks had fun with the game. Always nice when people have fun at the shows.

Yes this is the same figure that I've recived the other week when my friend, Jim, met up with John in Honk Kong.

John gives them to people who can paint them and enjoy the figures in thier collection .

When I got the first 2 it was on the stipulation that I didn't publish images of the troops until he issued a newsletter about thier release, which happend in November. As soon as he sent his newsletter, I emailed him my image and asked for some critique on my painting, and he then replied with 4 comments about some fined deatils that I hadn't done correcty. Following my correction, I again submitted my imae and when i got a 'big tick' I then puboished that in this Forum for you all to see.

Now I have the uniform deatils right, I hope to get this latest one painted, to make a fine 3 figure vignette, and so let you all see, before the rest come onto the market.

I hope this helps,

regards,

John

Thanks for the info John - You do great work. I'll be interested to see how this last one of yours turns out. You are correct in that it should make a nice three figure set.

45th..........After PJ and I spent a few hours with John last year at Hobby Bunker, we discussed the possibilities of producing unpainted figures. As we have been pretty heavy competitive figure painters for many years, John was interested in comparing his factory paints to how we would complete the paint up. Upon returning to HK, he sent us a couple resin copies to paint and send him photos. At Chicago, as Mike had indicated, he was just looking to avoid transporting many of his resin samples back to HK, and gave us a handfull as he knew we enjoyed painting them. Certainly an example of what a nice person he is.

Attached are a couple photos of the resin Glengarry figure I painted compared to the eventual factory piece. Mine is on the left. Not going into any detail here, but bottomline........the facoty paints are extremely well done and one you should be very proud to have in your collection.

Hope this answers your question

Walt,

Nice paint job you have done too. Your style is much like John's and so its a great comparison.

I don't use shading on my painting, but use the sculpted deatils and shadow to bring out the details, but they both show what fine figures that are being produced.

Thanks for sharing your painting with us,

John

Walt, that paint job is really great. I like your choice of colors for the hair and fur. I also like the weathering and shading. I would love to see what you could do with the French trader I sculpted.

I paint a lot of 28mm figures any can manage some touch ups on the larger figures, but they take a different touch.

Thanks for sharing the info on how John gave you the figures to paint. I think he likes to help out people who enjoy the hobby. He sent me some resin muskets to use in my sculptures while I practiced. I almost have one of my own done that is not too bad.

Again, I really like all the work I see people do here.

Thanks again.

Matthew
