Ok so with all the talk of Tigers and scale and what not up in the K&C section I started to wonder how many versions of the Tiger I i have in my collection.
The answer is too many!

So what else could I do with the wife out partying and the kids in bed but photograph them all?

Here's one of my faves, the Figarti Tiger, on an FOV diorama with K&C tank crew. Anyone mentions scales they are outta here! :)

Next up we have the Minichamps excellent 1st issue Tiger in, I think, 1/35th scale.

Here's an old favourite, the Forces of Valor 1st version Tiger. I like the paint job and weathering on this one

And another shot of the Minichamps Tiger with a big pink plastic flower and plug socket behind for authenticity.

Lets take the scale down now all the way to 1/50th with Corgi's D-Day Collection version of Wittman's 007 Tiger.

More Corgi 1/50 this time from the Battle of the Bulge. Note the molded foliage for camouflage!

James,

Nice collection, especially the Minichamps. I wonder if you were born on the day of the Tiger or if "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" is your favorite movie? :)

By my count, the Tunesian Tiger is the tenth different Tiger K&C has produced over the years:

1. In 1992, 50 primative hand carved wood Tigers were produced in China. These vehicles were (rather roughly) hand carved, with a separate turret attached by a wood pin, a (very) few added wood and metal detail pieces, and had one piece hand carved track and boogie wheel sections which were attached to the chassis (often at a slight angle, giving the tank a ‘bowlegged’ appearance). The Tigers were done in a three tone green and reddish brown over tan camo. Each was given unit numbers and the runic insignia of the “Das Reich” SS Panzer Division.

2. One or two of the Tigers were brush-painted over with white wash as custom ordered Winter Tigers, sold through Jim Hillestad of the Toy Soldier Museum.

3. As of February, 1996, wood Tigers were produced primarily in two-tone reddish brown on tan camouflage, although a limited number were produced in three tone green and brown on tan camo schemes. They came in the markings of the First (Liebstandart Adolf Hitler) SS Panzer Division, with principally the numbers 201 and 101 on the turrets. They had either tan or black resin tracks, and were truly the Cadillacs of K&C armored vehicle production. On the best of these tanks, the gun elevated, both top turret hatches opened, and there were blackout lamps of the front deck of the tank’s chassis. These tanks came with a half-figure of a black coated SS Tank Commander. This vehicle, designated TK01, originally retailed for $346 in 1996 but quickly increased to $384 by July, 1997. Between 50 and 100 of these vehicles were produced.

4. Same as 3, but without blackout lamps on the front deck (made in a different Phillipine factory).

5. In April, 1999, K&C produced the original Whitman Tiger (WS15).

6. By Christmas 1999, the Winter Whitman Tiger WS15(w) was released, as a whitewashed version of WS15,

7. WS25 (the second polystone Tiger, #131), appeared in March, 2001. This version had two open hatches, two half-figures, and a minimum of crud around the tracks. This Tiger lacked any additional details such as boxes or knapsacks, and came in a realistic but drab tri-color camouflage scheme with engraved on markings.

8. In Late 2002/early 2003, K&C produced the latest Whitman Tiger (#007, his last Tiger). Michael Whittman’s last Tiger shared the improved track detail, with very little mud or crud, and added a protruding half-figure of the driver to the open driver’s hatch. Half-figures of Whittman and a gunner are also provided to fit into the two open hatches on the top of the turret. The vehicle came in three-toned Normandy camouflage and bore number “007”.

9. In mid-October, 2005, K&C released its “Strictly Limited” Winter Tiger (WS70), of which 999 were produced. The Winter Tiger, with a weathered whitewashed finish, came with a wonderful crew in winter uniforms depicted in bivouac, cooking breakfast over a makeshift stove made from half an overturned oil drum placed over a campfire.

10. The Strictly Limited Tunesian Tiger.

As I have owned (or will soon own) all of these Tigers, I can tell you that it is a bear finding a place to display them all. I expect there will always be another version of the Tiger produced by K&C every year or two (same with the Sherman). By the time Andy retires, he may have produced more Tigers then the Germans did!

Very nice, good old Airfix.I always had trouble getting the tracks together on the 1/72 scale though.Always ended up sort of melting them together and tucking them away underneath so no one would notice!

Hey Nick,
Yeah I had to get the NMA one too so I ordered the last one from Treefrog which was lucky. Hopefully it'll arrive here in the UK in the next couple of weeks.
What's the smallest scale you have? Is it the Dragon Can-Do ones?

On the larger side, like you, i've got that Hen Long 1/16th R/C one. That's pretty good for such a cheap price.

Not sure really why I have so many. It's just a strange compulsion!

Back on the chain gang.
Here's a couple of old faves from K&C

THE TYGER (from Songs Of Experience)

By William Blake

Tyger! Tyger! burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare sieze the fire?

And what shoulder, & what art.
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand? & what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears,
And watered heaven with their tears,
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb make thee?

Tyger! Tyger! burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?
