Hi,

I have three Hiriart Greek sets. They are quite nice.

I have wondered what is a safe way to untie them from the box?

Will this damage the value?

Thanks,
MikeNick

Hi Mike,

I carefully cut the string ties with a razor blade. I save the set's internal foam rubber packing and cut slits in it for each figure in the set in case I want to return the figures to the box at a later date. As someone who collects toy soldiers for the love of the hobby rather than as an investment, I am not sure how much, if any, the set's value is reduced by their no longer being tied in the box. However, generally speaking, I would suspect that being tied in is preferable to not being tied in. As far as investments go, I believe you will do much better over time investing in the stock market and real estate as compared to toy soldiers.

Mike,
Thanks for the heads up.

I started a thread for Greek soldiers. My camera is on the fritz. Would it be possible for you to upload a photo of your Hiriart Greeks on the Greek soldiers thread?

They are wonderful figures and I want other Greek collectors to see and appreciate them.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

I would be happy to do so. What is the third set of Hiriart Greeks you are refering to? Is it the earlier version of Greek Evzones with the dark blue uniforms?

Mike,
The sets that I have are the Evzone band, the set 1119 that I bought from you with blue trim on the kilts and longer kilts for the officer and flagbearer, and another set 1119 that I bought from Buzz Thorpe years ago. The latter has no blue trim on the kilts nor long kilts.

Are you saying that there is a set of Evzones in dark blue uniforms? If so, I do not have it and would like to get it.

Thanks for your help
Mike

Hi Mike,

The blue uniform I was referring to was an earlier version of the Hiriart set 1119 GREEK EVZONES which had the officer in dark blue rather than maroon. I'll attach a photo of both band versions.
