We surely are trying to play ourselves out of the playoffs. Twice we had leads last night. Twice we gave them up in the very next inning.

If it weren't for Prince we'd be completely sunk. And now we're talking pitching CC on 3 days rest AGAIN. There's talk of pitching him on 3 days rest AGAIN after that. Desperate times...

Even if we do make the playoffs, we'll have nothing left.

Great idea for the end-of-season ticker, Brad!

With four games to go, I am on the edge of my seat until Monday. What's worse is the weather forecast for the next few days-rain here in the East Coast, which may cause postponements.

How 'bout the Yankees getting eliminated? First time since 1993 that they won't be in the playoffs. The new Curse of the House That Ruth Built, they never should have made plans to abandon the old park.

Prost!

If I'm CC, I worry about what effect that will have on my arm. I'm sure his agent and potential suitors are concerned.

This is also a concern for the Mets as well. I'm not sure if it's worth endangering his arm since this team is unlikely to the Series with the bullpen. There's also similar concern over Pelfrey. There apparently is some rule, which has been borne out, that if you're a young pitcher and you pitch more than thirty innings from your prior year, injury almost always results, which is why teams always exercise caution with young pitchers.

Let's face it, the Cubs are the most likely team to get to the Series for the Mets and Brewers, this is probably more about saving face: the Mets, because it wouldn't be good if this happened two years in a row; and the Brewers, same reason.

I'm pretty sure the Cubs would rather play the Mets in the first round because they can't play the Brewers, which would leave them facing the Phillies, a stronger team than the Mets (the key difference between the two being a better bullpen).

I think it is great for the sport; time they learned they do not have an entitlement to be in the playoffs, not matter how much they spend. The same goes for the "modern" Redsox.;)

Brad,

As frustrating at it is to watch our collective teams at times, this is what makes it fun. There are a lot of other teams that wish they were in the place of these three teams.

Forget about the National Legaue. What is happening to my White Sox. It is bad enough that the Cubs are in the playoffs, and now White Sox are falling apart.

Today's Fanometer and not a very good one unless you're a Brewers fan:

From a Mets point of view, the worst loss of the year. They all seem bad lately, but this one was worse. Failure in all levels of the game: starting pitching, clutch hitting and ultimately the bullpen. Runner on third with no outs in the bottom of the 9th and they couldn't get him home. This might have been my last look at Shea as I head to Chicago on the morn.

Disappointing series for the Phils, too, taken in perspective of a pennant race and three games left to go on the season. On the other hand, it was nice to see the Phils dominate the Braves this year.

The Phils' offense is in another mini-slump. Once again, when most everyone else couldn't buy a hit, Ryan Howard is pounding the ball, getting his 47th home run last night. I'm just hoping the rest of the lineup finds its bat for the series with Washington (and that it doesn't get postponed-we've got rain coming for the next three days).
