Interesting story:

The secrets of top Hitler aide Alfred Rosenberg may soon be revealed, 67 years after he ended up at the end of a rope for his leading role in the Holocaust. Some 400 pages from Rosenberg's diary vanished after the Nuremberg war crimes trials where he was sentenced to death, and they have now been rediscovered at the upstate New York home of an academic linked to a Nuremberg prosecutor, Reuters reports.

Rosenberg, one of the key architects of Nazi ideology, also directed the looting of art across Europe.

The diary "sheds new light on a number of important issues relating to the Third Reich's policy," including tensions between top-level Nazis, according to a preliminary analysis by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

"The diary will be an important source of information to historians that complements, and in part contradicts, already known documentation," the assessment states.

Rosenberg was considered as one or the main ideologists of nazism by the allies, but he was just a kind of low level philosopher, a mad ,mediocre theorist and I never read about a "his leading role in the holocaust"... He wrote theories about the "german superman", then, during the war was cut out of the big games and put as an administrator of some eastern territories. His fortune with Hitler was already finished at the beginning of WW2; others were the important nazi leaders during WW2: Albert Speer, Goering, Himmler, Goebbles, Bormann ( at the very end of it).

And about "discovering new important facts about the holocaust", well, I seriously doubt about it...Even if those diaries will be proved to be true, the nazi leaders never admitted or wrote about killings or crimes in their memories ( ex. Speer wrote he even didn' t know about the holocaust), especially someone like Rosenbeg who was a writer and out of the games during the war.

We know all about the holocaust as the nazi lost the war and their crimes haven' t been for sure diminished by the winners!!

While a lot has still to be found of the sovietic crimes well hidden in the KGB and in the russian archives....

My fellow Treefrogger Larso and I attended a lecture at the University of Queensland almost 15 years ago given by a war crimes investigator who had worked on WW2 era crimes and much more recent ones in Eastern Europe.

Working in the era before scanners he recounted working in some Russian archives where if they promised to leave their photocopier behind when they were done they could go where they wanted and look at whatever they wished. The archivist even gave them a pair of scissors!

{sm4} some russian archives....But not the ex KGB archives ( ex NKVD, ex GPU) I guess....And maybe they forgot to say that there was a nearby room with more materials.....:wink2:

Untill Russia is not a democratic country, the full truth will not be enlighten; the culture of secret, the suspicious against the foreigner and the systematic lying and hypocrisy of the institutions are still a fact in that country. In the past, Stalin could very well hide the programmed starvation genocide in Ukraine ( 6 millions deads) in the 30ies, by showing the italian and french communists visiting Ukraine some happy villages with well fed peasants!

And the fact that the massacre of Katyn ( several thousand of POW polish officiers shot in the head by KGB in 1941) was partially admitted by Putin in the 90, let me some doubts considering that that regime is still on!

Quite possibly true about the 'other rooms' but I can only recount the part of the story I heard.

I take it that you do not exchange Christmas cards with the Russian leadership. They have clearly annoyed you.
