From John:

I have a shop in Yangshuo now for over a year. This set was specifically for that shop and the huge tourist market there.
I have been a bit surprised at the interest worldwide, and will be happy to develop this series further.

Great looking set, and brings back memories of my visit to that part of China about 30 years ago.

Well done, yet agin,

John

Depending on what develops, I may be interested in this series. Years ago, we went on vacation in Shanghai and visited Hangzhou, the West Lake. I don't why but this item sort of reminds me of that. It's a beautiful area.

Brad...

WOW!!!

that makes a pretty postcard...so tranquil...so peaceful...beautiful...

Michael,

That's a picture I grabbed from the web but it does look like that or it did back in 1996 when we visited there. It was relatively uncrowded but people have more disposable income now so I expect it's a lot more crowded.

I will see if I can dig up some of the photos I took. There was a cave that that had several Buddha sculpted into the cave (I think) that took your breath away.

Brad...

if John is reading them...you should receive a stipend...^&grin ...you're giving him lots of good ideas...I know he would appreciate you sending him an email of the photos if you can make time to do so...he spends so much time doing research...

Michael,

I could do that. Interestingly, I came across them the other day as they were in my office, which I was cleaning out as I have to move to a different part of our corporate campus.

From John:

If you have not been to Guilin, it's pretty phenomenal!
It's so beautiful that every time I go there I seriously consider staying......
But have to come back to HK to keep making toy soldiers!

That is very good news.
Thanks for posting, Randy.

Yangshuo, which is in the South, is about a day away (in driving time) from Hangzhou, which is near Shanghai.

I swore to myself I would not take on another series...

but I guess I can squeeze this in somewhere else...it's just got so much potential...

looks like I'll be eating on tv trays for the next few years...^&grin

Randy...

John told me he opened a shop...he said it was small...very small...very, very small...and then he laughed...

I think the real estate there is unreal expensive...

From what I read online Yangshuo is a small town but has become rather touristy.

If anyone was thinking to themselves, "hmmm, I wonder if this figure will work with my K&C Streets of Hong Kong", the answer is YOU BETCHA!!!!

Absolutely no interest in this subject.......same goes for WWI........and yet I keep going back to have another look at these new JJD releases.

There's just something about the artistry of John Jenkins figures and vehicles I find so appealing.

Already made some plans on how and where to display those WWI French releases of John's...........and this little guy on the raft, and maybe a few other future Yangshuo releases, can go on a shelf in the den......... ^&cool

Really like to see that raft guy on a water buffalo or elephant, what are the chances John? I remember you had an elephant on your work bench, appears either you still have it pushing boxes around for you or there was not merit in duplicating it^&grin. Hoping like others on the forum that there is some more to come in this era. Robin.
