As far as I'm aware. this is the best forum for toy soldiers. Are there others that are as active as this one? (I'm aware of the Yahoo LittleWars group.)

This one probably got there firstest with the mostest, for this genre. Other forums go deeper into one or the other aspect that we may cover here. For example, PlanetFigure is for the serious figure painters, or Conny Schulte's HZ-Forum, based in Germany, again is for the serious painters, and to that, the majority paint flats. I paint gloss figures, which would be out of place at PlanetFigure (maybe not so much at HZ, but still, they would be a distinct minority).

But this forum encompasses both connoisseur style matte figures; less-detailed but none-the-less well done figures in the Chinese style, such as K&C, Frontline, and their granddaddy, Reeves; and gloss figures, whether in traditional toy soldier style, or detailed figures in gloss finish. And it includes people who just collect, but would never think of taking a brush to a figure, all the way to guys who cast and paint figures, and even sculpt their own original figures.

I think it would be hard to set up another site, that would include the same mix, and attract new people to it, or anyone away from this site.

Maybe, just maybe, the one chink in the armor would be language. I think most of us here are native English speakers, and most of us are natives of Britain and her children. I could see, perhaps, if there were a community of French-speaking collectors, who would go to a French-speaking site dedicated to their hobby, because it would be easier. But we've got members for whom English is a second language, too, and maybe it wouldn't make a difference, nowadays.

Prost, beianand!

This forum is hard to beat. I have looked at others and found them to be somewhat inarticulate and hard to use. Certainly none of them cover such a wide variety of figures and subjects, and very few encompass debate to the degree found here.

This is an easy forum to use for us types who do not know computers real well. I guess I should say "user friendly".

Hi all,

just registered today. Found out about Treefrog Treasures Forum thru and advert in TSC. The format here is quite similar to another model soldier forum "Planet Figure" and thus, it is reasonably easy for me to get used to this. The forum looks very lively and I hope to get more involved.

Victor,

Welcome to the forum. What sort of figures do you collect?

Welcome aboard Victor. Its a great bunch of guys, very well informed and opinionated, so if you want to learn something new, and don't mind some strong opinions and rather cheeky humor, you will have a great time!:p;)

Like anything else, just practice and you'll be better when using them. The problem is not the other forums...

Speaking of debates, I know a place where it is the members who discipline themselves and are not at the mercy of the arbitrary...

Hey Al,there are others of course, some of them very good. Its just there does seem to be something special about this one.It seems there is almost always something going on,opinions and collections are diverse and there is a sort of 'Family' spirit. Now of course families don't always get on;)and people get into arguments now and again, however for me its a wonderful forum and the place to celebrate my hobby and love of military history.

Pierre, who is that in your avatar? It looks like Ian McShane, but at this resolution, I'm squinting a little.

Prost!
