Toy Soldier Magazine (1 Viewer)

I think it's worth it. You can see what all the companies, regardless of scale, are doing. The articles aren't bad. It's just generally good to see what's going on.

Just a point about TOY SODLIER COLLECTOR Magazine Latest issue.

We had Jeni the new editor at the K&C UK warehouse yesterday and she kindly pointed out that the reveiw on the TOY SOLDIER SHOW LONDON there is a pic of the new Sturat tank in the bocage. It gives title to JG minitures, but in fact it is mine!!!! No disrespect to John but it took me a while to do that. That said to be thought it was JG is a very nice complement.:)

Marc,

I subscribe to the magazine for two years at a time. I thoroughly enjoy the magazine and I save a few dollars by subscribing for the longer period. I have little doubt that you, too, will find the articles interesting and the pictures exciting. The magazine also keeps me informed of the activities and releases of a wide variety of manufacturers. I would be somewhat lost without it.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

I have been getting the Toy-Soldier& Model Figure magazine since the first issue and enjoy every issue plus a good reference to old releases. Sometimes I look at color back pages of early K&C releases. This month I got their 100th issue. I plan to renew. The other toy soldier collector magazine is in it's second year but dissappointed with last issue this month. Mark Avery left magazine to run Britains collector club magazine and new editor this month seemed pretty basic on articles and mostly adds. Not sure if I will renew although earlier issues were excellent. Leadmen

I enjoy TS&MF - though the purpose of it has changed over time for me. For nearly everyone, it used to be the place to find out the latest news on new releases, etc. Now, with Forums like this one, that news comes out quite a while bfore TS&MF can print it.

The magazine does a good job off keeping us up to date on smaller maufacturers. I also really enjoy the historical background that is given on the sets and the articles on collectors.

There is always more to learn ...

I have too agree. The new editor did not get off to a good start as there are numerous typos in 5 or more of the articles.:(

I was wondering if it is worth it to subscribe to Toy Soldier magazine and if I did should I do it for 1 year or two. I am mainly interested in WW2.

If you check the link out, go to back issues, and ask yourself why issue #2 has a blank cover. I know the answer, but was wondering if any one else knew the dirty little secret ? Michael :D

Issue #2 of Toy soldier Collector was one issue I did not have but tracked down a copy because it is sold out. Could it be the article on dead or dieing model soldiers? That was their Zulu War issue. Leadmen

I belive that Mulberry Miniatures had made a set of Sharpes Rifles without copyright permission by Carlton TV and this set appeared on the front page. Due to a threat of legal action unsold sets had to be destroyed and no further magazine copies could be sold because of the article.

You are correct......I got that info from the owner of Mulberry Miniatures, Gavin ,and I was lucky enough to get one the few original sets. That is what got me collecting Mulberry Napoleonics. Fell in love with his stuff and became good friends with the family.....Michael On the issues that were sold, was the original article left in and the cover intact....Is it possible to still find some of the offending issues?

Yes, I have one of issue 2 and they were sold complete for a while, untill Carlton got wind of it.

The 2nd Issue of Toy Soldier and Model Figure magazine with the offending cover is the hardest one to find because so many were withdrawn or destroyed. After looking for 10 years, I finally found one at last year's Chicago show for $50 from a dealer selling dimestore figures. I was willing to pay this price because it was the only issue of TSMF that I was missing. It takes patience and the willingness to ask every dealer, no matter what they are selling, whether they have this issue. Good luck!:)

I have issue #2 with Sharpe. I been cutting back on my mags and might also sell my 100 issues of Toy-Soldier & Model Figure magazines. I am getting to point of downsizing stuff plus I really don't buy too much K&C. Mostly various sets except I buy Iwo sets. You know you are out of control when you open boxes and find hobby stuff you don't remember getting. On retirement I have less to spend. Well I will go overboard at Chicago, so much for discipline. I used to enjoy TS&MF a gret deal but feel it's gone downhill over the last couple of years (see my seperate post regarding issue 100) there are now too many ads for their own stuff and the editorial page count has suffered.

I also get Toy Soldier Collector (www.toysoldiercollector.com) and I have to agree with the comments that the latest issue wasn't as good as those done by the previous editors Rob & Mark. I'm hoping this is just a glitch during the change over and that it will be back on track with the next one as I feel it has more articles and reviews than TS&MF and although a little more per issue does offer better value for money. I also like the fact that it covers a lot of the lesser known UK makers, quite useful when you live overseas!:)
