I just picked up a copy of Toy Soldier Collector thorugh my local Chapters store. While the photos were from releases we have already seen here on the forum. There were quite a few good interesting articles and tidbits. I also liked the fact that it covered some of the lesser known brands of toy soldiers.

My question is are there any other magazines available that I should keep my eyes peeled for ??

The other 3 toy soldier magazines that I'm aware of are:

Plastic Warrior Magazine
Playset Magazine
Toy Soldier and Model Figure Magazine

There's also a model figure and toy soldier magazine out of Italy- but I can't remember the name right off hand.

Hi, britfarmer, I subscribe to Toy Soldier & Model Figure,, and Ray Haradin's Old Toy Soldier, which is quarterly. I also subscribed to Bill Lango's Toy Soldier Review, until it went out of publication, but I recommend getting back issues of the magazine, it was another source of good articles and info.

Of course, with forums like ours, there are some who no longer look for hardcopy. But I like having both, and for info about classic toy soldiers, and figures from the early new period, say, from 1980 through 2000, the magazines can be a good source of info.

I also look for old issues of Military Modelling, Tradition(the old Belmont-Maitland/Stadden publication, not the current French mag) for the same reason. Military Modelling had a new products column, which often included new releases of figures by Lasset, Rose, etc.

I keep a list of the magazine issues, so I know what to look for at the shows and avoid buying duplicates.

Prost!

Thanks for the info guys.

Brad I agree with you about actually having a hard copy. I found about 3 or 4 manufacturers that were in TSc that have not (to my knowledge) been discussed on the forums I belong to. I also enjoy just sitting on the couch with a cup of coffee and flipping through a magazine, seems there is always something you missed first time round when you re-read it.

Also features some great display of the collectors which seems to be a bit thin on the forums.

I wonder what percentage of collectors are not on any of the forums??

I would imagine the vast majority. WE are the FEW etc etc…….

I know many collectors who do not participate on the forum in spite of my coaxing to read the forum or join. I always got the Toy Soldier magazines from the old Tradition, Military modeling, Bill Lango's Toy Soldier Review and OTSN. I enjoy reading old issues again and also as my reference library. I did not renew my Toy Soldier Collector magazine due to delivery problems. I also enjoy the Britain's club magazine.

I think the selection of figures and armor is the best it ever been and I imagine their are more collectors now then realized. Also, I noticed some train collectors crossing over to military models and trains. Leadmen

Are there other toy soldier forums? I expect, yes, but I found Treefrog last spring, and really didn't look anywhere else.

I did join TS&MF's forum, but there is almost no activity there. I think I'm still prominently figured as "last poster" on some threads, going back over a year. I they got into it, too late.

I agree with Leadmen and Jeff, there probably are a lot more collectors who don't participate in an online forum, than those who do. Or at least, they don't participate as much as we all do. After all, somebody has to work :D

Prost!

I totally agree about the TS&MF forum, it is a complete waste of space. Let's face it, many collecters would sooner paint or organise their figures than sit at a computer. I know a lot who were completely unaware of this site until I mentioned it to them. Hopefully some of them have made regular visits.

Thanks, LM, I'll take a look at it tonight!

Of course, I don't imagine leaving this one ;)

I think Treefrog got there firstest with the mostest.

Prost!
