I'm attempting to purchase some die cast toy soldiers for my husband for Christmas. He always talks about how much he love the toy soldiers he played with as a kid before his younger brother traded them all for x-men. He describes them as looking like GI Joe's but they were metal...I'm assuming they must have been WWII or Vietnam soldiers. My husband was born in 1973 so I'm assuming he would have received the soldiers as gifts around 1978-1983. Does anyone know what manufacturer could have been selling metal soldiers around that time? I greatly appreciate any help! Thanks!

Hi Jogle,

What would help the experts on this forum is a picture of these soldiers...Without that it's going to be difficult for anyone on this forum to identify the maker and line.

Thanks!

Grognard,

I think that's the problem. She doesn't know what they look like.

Jogle,

You might try ebay. You might also ask him if he has any interest in starting a collection again and, if so, what period. Once you have that info, you could browse through what Treefrog has to offer in their shopping site.

Best of luck.

I think the search criteria can be narrowed down to:

Type: Metal Toy Soldiers

Size: probably 1/32 scale (54mm) and Gloss.

Period: WWII /Vietnam War

Release: 1978 to 1983

Which Manufacturer: ?

Please post your suggestions to help jogle317.

Thanks, Raymond.:)

King-White/Reeves included WWII US infantry in their cataloge, during that time period, but that's a long shot.

Prost!

Could they have been Marx or Manoil?

I doubt they were Britains as the soldiers they were making were plastic and the metals ones were ceremonial.

What I had in mind is try to find a family picture of her husband as kid playing with these soldiers...

There were no digital cameras in the late 70's, so she would have to scan the analog pictures to post.

It would be nice if she could keep the Christmas gift as a surprise for her husband.

How about Minimen? I have no idea if this company made WWII figures.

my guess, even though metal was the word used, is britains deetail.
