Traveling to Budapest and Vienna in a couple of weeks and I wonder if any forum members know of toy soldier shops and histortical museums they would reccomend.

Thanks.....

Budapest is a great city! Here are some great places to visit:
The Fortress of Egar is a MUST, as is reading the Eclipse of the Crescent moon, a great historical novel about the siege.
The Parliament is magnificent!
The Church as the Fishermen's Bastion.
There are many cigar shops that sell nice little figures from Hungarian history, such as hussars and St. Stephen.
Don't for get to stuff your face with the great food, and my personal recommendations are a high quality Bull's Blood and a 5 puttonyos Tokay.

Good luck,
Sandor

I would take the book Battle of Budapest with you as it has some great photos and take a look at the secret Police torture prison witch wad used by both the Germans and the Russians

Hi There,

In Budapest I found s guy selling figures of various Hungarian Themes mainly mounted. They weren't the best painted figures but they were well priced and I plan to repaint them. He was up by the castle if I can find his card I will let you know. Also found some really well done knights near the old Synagogue. They were in a store that was selling Russian ornaments and glass wear. Also found some great old figures in the various antiques stores I found in the city center. So there are figures available just need to look a little.

In Vienna you should stop in at Joseph Kober's store which has a new address posted in a link on the Joseph Kober thread. Great sets if you are into Glossy semi round 45mm figures. I picked up a fantastic set there of a Shooting Fest which comes out to be displayed during October Fest. They sell all kinds of toys as well so keep that in mind.

Have a great time!

Dave

The "Josef Kober" thread is to be found at: "More glossy manufacturers" on this site.

The "back door" of Kobers is in Schulerstrasse. Just a little bit further up Schulerstrasse (on the left side, going towards the Ringstrasse) is Zinnfiguren Boehm (german spelling: Bo "umlaut" hm; an umlaut is two dots over the vowel)

This is tiny "specialist" Toy Soldier Shop, it is not restricted to Zinnfiguren, per se. It is opposite the Mozarthaus.

Well worth a look.
