Hi all,
I will be going to London next month for the first time and was wondering if anyone could recommend any toy soldier shops within the area or hobby shops? Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

There's a great toy soldier shop at the Guards' Museum right next to Green Park - very easy to find.

Lots of K&C, JJB, Britains (new and old ones) and some Cold Steel which I picked up there last time.

Chap (can't remember his name) is very friendly and knowledgeable.

Another one is The Armoury of St James at the Piccadilly arcade. They stock King and Country, Tradition and more. Worth a visit.

I forgot to mention Hamley's Toy Store on Regent Street. On the 4th floor there are Britain's toy soldiers. I am afraid that's all.

If you have the time visit Magpie in Evesham www.magpieantiques.co.uk.

It's about 2hrs direct on the train from Paddington and they have loads of K&C, TG, FL and WB on display.

It's a nice train ride as well through the countryside :)

I had a look there last month ..... only a few W Britains, but mainly tourist gifts, like guardsmen, beef eaters and police.

Guards Toy Soldier Shop is THE BEST, but if you'd like to see a 'High End' shop, go to The Armoury of St James...... they have K&C, Britain's, Tradition of London and this time the guy there was very friendly, unlike previous visits over the years.

In the central aisle there are two rows of cabinets shown in jb's link. I was there recently and where both these rows used to display toy soldiers the display is down to one row which is mainly Britains. Off to the right there is an alcove with cabinets on three sides also full of soldiers with a good selection of K&C amongst others. Towards the rear of the shop was a small display of Del Prado Napoleonic mounted figures and upstairs a small collection of vintage castings and a box of lead in need of hospital treatment.

Despite the reduced number of cabinets there is still very substantial display and it is a great place to visit as there is much more here than soldiers. Toys, kits, antiques, coins, books etc. You can also follow the battlefield trail for the battle of Evesham and the town also has a few other interesting shops. A few miles West is Powick Bridge on the outskirts of Worcester where the first shots of the Civil War were fired. The small church at Powick still retains marks from bullets although these were possibly from skirmishes during the much later battle of Worcester. Worcester itself has many places of interest in relation to that latter battle. If you really want to make it a battlefield hat trick then Tewkesbury lies not far to the south of Worcester.
