Thought I'd share these with my fellow Froggers.
I worked on a rotation in Kazakhstan from 2001 to 2002. Used to travel in and out via a 1-night stay in The Marriot Hotel in Budapest. Out for a stroll one day and found several shops were selling toy soldiers (this was what sparked my interest in toy soldiers in the first place). Anyway, over the next few trips I picked up a few at a time.
Here are the first few photos. Sorry the quality's not that great, light wasn't the best and I should probably have cleaned the camera lens or something.
It would be interesting if anyone can identify the regiments.
The scales are a wee bit inconsistent. I think they're supposed to be 1/32. I've included a K&C figure in most of the snaps for scale comparison.

As you can see, the guy with the musket slung over his shoulder needs some paint touching up - I'm convinced he's been dropped at one time or other. These figures were kept here in Dalian for the past 3 years while we were living in Dubai. I only saw them again this morning. So I'm looking at this guy and I knew something was wrong - then I spotted it - he'd been repaired, but the LEFT HAND had been stuck onto the RIGHT ARM and vice versa.....????
My Lovely Little Cherry Blossom is out attending her daily English lessons at the moment.....it's not English lesson's she needs, it's basic anatony ones...!!! Besides, it turns out that her English teacher has been pointing out how much I've been taking the pi$$ down the years with her pronounciation and grammar.

And finally, these ones below are 1/35 scale. A Kazhak immigration official tried to take the Stalin and the Lady adjusting her apparel figures away from me. He did seem to understand my response though, cos I've still got them...!!!

Here's another one that came from Budapest. It has a certain charm and was bought as a set. I seem to remeber the set included a paper boat as well. The ballarina is a flat and the tin soldier has the deformity as per the story.

"Oh I, am a little tin soldier"
"That wants to jump into your fire"

I'll tip my hat to anyone who can get the name of that really obscure song and the band.

The song version I know is by Donovan, done sometimes in the 60's.

Here are the lyrics.

The Little Tin Soldier

Once in a town in the black forest a little white toy-shop stood.
And the little tin soldier with only one leg lived in a castle of wood.
And across the room on another shelf stood a little glass case,
And a tiny ballerina lived in there all in her dress of lace.
And from where the little tin soldier stood they could see each other so clear
And the little tin soldier watched over her with a love that was so dear.
Then one day sadness came: the tiny ballerina was sold.
The little tin soldier was thrown away and into the gutter he rolled.
The water carried him to the sea and many far-off lands.
He made many children happy as he passed through their tiny hands.
And then one day they met again in a house in the land of Eire
And when the clocks on the wall struck the midnight hour
They jumped into a fire
And in that fire they shall stay
Forever and a day
For the fire, Lord, is the fire of love,
Just like the peaceful dove.

OMG.....Donovan - the Fey Little Pixie from Glasgow....!!!!:D:D:D Good try though.

Naa, the song I'm thinking of is from the same era but by a much more rockier band. Here's a clue, their front man at the beginning of the 70's was none other than Rod Stewart and they shortened the name of the band to keep him happy.
:):)

No takers?
Okay, it was "Toy Soldier" by The Small Faces. Excellent underachieving band.

There's been quite a few views now. Can anyone assist with identifying the regiments......or are they just a figment of imagination by some Hungarian figure painter?
