Ah, yes! Lots of cardboard soldiers and wooden vehicles! Remember the Rigby line of paper models? Pep cereal with gliders of WWII fighters on the box? My first Britains were part of the Lend Lease program to get Britain money for weapons. Balsa was scarce (used for life jackets) so all you could get for model airplanes was pine or poplar. Went on a lot of paper and metal drives with the Boy Scouts. Grease and aluminum foil were scare so we returned them to the grocers. (Ladies . . . turn in your fat cans. . . ) A lot has changed since then . . . including me.
