A most impressive collection. Did you paint these yourself or buy them aready painted?

Welcome to the forum.
I collect FIW by Britains (glossy) and John Jenkins (matte) and have a few Frontline (matte)

Randy

I agree, what a great collection and well taken photos. I really like Tradition's FIW line up. I only have a few Tradition soldiers (all FIW) which I am currently painting. If they are successful I hope to follow up with the artillery set.

Yes, a very impressive collection. I am in favour of Tradition's castings as they are nice and crisp and have plenty of detail. I have painted a few for forum members and Konrad (Kogu) has a couple of the FIW sets in his collection.

I see that Tradition has just released some more French, marching this time though.

Jeff

Very nice, FIW in gloss is a favorite of mine. I especially enjoy the massed troops efect, the sea of rifles and bayonets pointed towards the enemy. I also enjoy the French troops photos, those uniforms ae just awesome, and I believe at least one of those French sets is now no longer produced and was a limited edition.

Congrats,
Paulo

Impressive photos, I especially like the second one.

What's nice is that these tradition figures also fit well with the Britain Redcoat, Bluecoat, French-Indian war figures.

Wait until Brad sees this post. He's painted a good number of these Tradition castings.

Also, I noticed that you're from London and so you must get to visit the Tradition shop in person going into that basement and seeing all those castings :D. If I were a Londoner I'd be there most weekends. They'd start charging me an entrance fee.

Wow, nice display, 999th! And Russell's right, I'm a big fan of Tradition's figures. This series fits right in with Britain's current Redcoats/Bluecoats figures, too.

Have you thought about getting the castings and trying your hand at painting them, too? Tradition is a good place to start, if you've never painted before, because the castings are nicely detailed, as Jeff pointed out.

I only wish they would add some mounted figures to the series. Mounted officers, at least, for the North American front, and for the European theater, British light dragoons, French dragoons.

Yes, very nice display, please let's see some more of your collection!

Prost!
Brad

All these sets are tradition painted. I've never tried painting any of their castings. I just don't think I have the patience for miniature painting. As a kid I used to make my own seven years war toy soldiers using Prince August moulds. I made a few hundred (some of which may still be at my mother's, along with all my Britains Deetails) but I never go round to fully painting a single one.

I've also tried terrain making more recently but when I compared the results of my efforts, the time spent and costs of materials, with the professionally made terrain I've bought from the likes of Britains, JG Miniatures and TM terrain, I decided to call it a day.

I agree that Britain's new FIW series complements Tradition's offerings. The only issue I have with Britains is that they seem to be producing single figures instead of sets (exception being their Royal Artillery Gun). I haven't collected any Britains FIW yet as I still have plenty more Tradition sets to acquire first.

More cavalry from Tradition or Britains would also be good. As a kid I made plenty of Prussian Cuirassiers and Hussars.

I have also got quite a few John Jenkins figures, obviously for separate display.

All four of the French sets are limited editions of 75, although you can still get the castings and can probably still find some of then from other dealers but not Tradition itself. The two new marching sets are on my very long "to purchase" list.

Have bought most of my sets at the shop itself at Shepherd's market. I'm quite lucky living in London as Tradition, The Armoury of St James (which stocks Frontline and East of India) and the Guards Toy Soldiers (my usual port of call for Trophy) are all within walking distance of each other as well as Apsley House, Buckingham Palace, Cabinet War rooms, Guards museum and Household cavalry museum and Horse Guards parade.

Hi,
I feel exactly like you about painting and making diorama materials. The only difference is that I didn't even give it a try:D.
I have also had the pleasure of visiting the Guards Toy Soldier Centre (what a place and what a location) and Tradition's shop. At both, I felt like a kid in a candy shop... Having these shops near you is certainly one of the privileges of living in London. I regularly order from them through a Portuguese dealer that goes to the London Toy Soldier Shows (another privilege of being a Londoner:) or through the net, but it really is a fantastic experience to visit the shops and see things live... Oh, well, hope to get back to London whenever I can;), after all I get there faster by plane than to Oporto by car:D.

Portuguese collector,
Paulo

P.S.
I still didn't visit the Armoury of St. James.

I still didn't visit the Armoury of St. James.

The Guards shop is in a great location, I've been serenaded by quite a few times by marching bands on my walk up Birdcage Walk to the shop and there are often pipers hanging around outside.

You should make a trip to the Armoury on your next trip to London, also a great location right near Fortnum & Masons, there is also an excellent ciger shop (Davidoff), Cheese shop (Paxtons) and god knows how many shirt shops and men's shoe shops on the street behind (Jermyn Street). The Armoury also has a quite a few original regimental drums for sale which, in wifespeak, would make "great little coffee tables."

I'm also a regular at London Toy soldier shows - mostly for Little Legion but also scouring around for John Jenkins and Trophy

Hello 999th,
you have a wonderful collection. The massed display of your troops looks awesome. I do have a few Tradition FIW figures that were painted by Jeff (aujj65) and will create an album to show them.
Your description of London with the different Toy Soldier shops and Museums all together in walking distance sounds very tempting.
I would love to visit London for a few days and check all these places out.
Many years ago in my late teens and early twens I was in London a few times but back then I did not look for Toy Soldiers.
If I can arrange another visit it would be totally focused on the subject, Toy Soldiers, History, Museums, Toy Soldier Show, and ... food/drink too.
Great collection!
Thanks for posting.
Konrad
