Sorry that its a bad image, I've had him for about 12 years, got him from the Tradition of London shop in my visit to UK in 2000 and the image is a scan off a photo, like many of the images on my website.

Maybe I should take new imagery of my old stuff ???

Thats yet another retirement project, after painting all the castings I have collected.

Maybe we can get more images of Frederick posted ???

John

Hi Ludwig, hi John,
if I may join in here, another casting by Tradition of London, from their Model Soldiers Line, is this mounted Frederick the Great, which was painted for me by John Firth, aka "beating retreat".
Got this one for a few years by now and it is one of the favorite figures in my collection.
A cropped version of one of the photos below, is what I use for my avatar.

Konrad,

what a briiliant figure you have there...... and thanks for sharing with us the close ups showing John's wonderful paintwork.

I don't think anyone can beat that... not that we are going in for a contest!

Lets see what other figures arise?

John

Thanks, Ludwig, John and Konrad! All great examples of Tradition quality, and how they paint up in a variety of finishes.

The only one we're missing is the kit figure from the Model Soldier line (cast with the oval base). I have that one in my cabinet at home, one of my early pieces, I'll see if I can get a picture up.

In memory of the old devil, prost Fritz!

Thanks everyone,

Friedrich der Große....der alte Fritz is one of my top few favorite people of all time.

At my main home I have some old Elastolin figures of Fritz mounted, on foot and with his dogs. He was a great lover of dogs as I am.

My Elastolin look like this.

Fritz was the man!!! In Fredricksburg Texas near to one of my residences they have a Store called Der Alte Fritz. What more could you ask for while away from home...except some Knödel dumplings from the "Kartoffelhaus Der Alte Fritz" im Berlin!!!!

Viel Glück und Viel Spaß

Ludwig!!!!

Here's one more version of Friedrich.
This time it is a Flat, showing him playing the flute.

Brad just love it!! When I was young my mother would make us pfannkuchen. Us kids pronounced it "fun-in-kuchen". These were flat crepe like pancakes as you know. She would butter them and we would fill them with different jelly/ perserves/ marmalades, roll them up and have them as a breakfast on special occassions like when we were in favor with our parents...which was rare...little Ludwig was often in trouble{eek3}. Now these Phanni's were good .....but what was better was.......THE SOUP!! With leftover pfannkuchen ..pancakes...she would cut them up in strips and put them in a beef bouillon soup with onions....this is poor....when you do not have much... Bavarian cooking at its best. We came to love the soup so much that we ate few with jelly so there would be more for the soup.:) These were the kind of really cheap things my mother would make that we thought were up town!!

I still think of those days.:)mit meine kleine Mutti!! I will expect it via Overnight!:smile2:

Konrad, this flat is AWESOME. I am PMing my mailing address to you now!!!

I have lots of flats as well. I am going to post you some pictures later of 17th Century Bavarian Cavalry flats painted like this one you have.

Thanks guys!!

Ludwig

Thank you, Konrad and Ludwig, for your latest posts. Konrad, is that figure from Berliner Zinnfiguren? I know a lot of makers have produced a figure of Frederick from that painting, but yours reminds me of Scholz' catalog figure. I have it on my wish list to get the fully-round 54mm figure that Ulrich Puchala modeled.

And Ludwig, what a wonderful bronze! I think that's modeled on a statue of Fritz that was up somewhere, maybe in Potsdam back in the day?

And yes, I've enjoyed a Pfannkuchensuppe or two, too! Always with a Doppelbock or a Weizen ;)

Prost!
Brad

I love the flat of Frederick with his flute, Brad,

and the brass figurine, Ludwig,

thanks for showing them to us all.

I think I need to show another figure of Frederick the Great.

Frederick the Great & 11th Cuirassier "after Kolin"

Based on a famous print by ???

These kits were made by Müritz-Miniaturen and sculted by Ulrich Puchala, and are still available. Several other poses are made by this maker if anyone is interested.

Regards,

John

Correct, John, that's from Carl Röchling's "The Evening of Kolin". A little clarification-Ulrich Puchala did indeed sculpt the figures, but he sold the line himself through his own catalog (and at one time, through his Pour-le-Merite shop). A couple of years ago, he began working on a series of larger-scale figures and busts, and licensed Müritz-Miniaturen to continue producing his 54mm line in the meantime. That was good news to me, because when he switched, it wasn't announced immediately that someone else would continue to produce the 54mm figures. I took a trip to Chuck Robinson's Red Lancers store with a couple of buddies, and bought up a bunch of his remaining stock.

Prost!
