I'm looking for a train/wagons which is/are compatible with the KC scale.

The idea is to build a german transport train with tanks and supplies on it.

Something like in the beginning of the movie : The Eagle has landed

Some transport wagons and a small track would be fine, a locomotive is not (yet) required.

Suggestions?

Standard or 1 gauge is the closest at 1:32 scale. S is 1:48 and G is 1:22. This is a link to a scale conversion chart http://home.att.net/~Berliner-Ultrasonics/scalconv.html

I too have been toying with the idea of a transport train. I think that European style flat cars made by Marklin would be something worth looking into. I have not been able to find an online dealer that has what I am looking for. Perhaps others do know of one and would share the link?

You can give O gauge a try which is approx.1:48 scale.....but they will be to small for 1:30 scale tanks and figures.....

In the USA "G" guage can mean several things; the track is the same size but "mainline" trains are about 1:32, but some of the European and narrow-guage trains are 1:22.5 (LGB scale). "O" scale is 1:48, but due to Lionel influences the track is about 1:43-ish scale.

I build my trains in H-O (1/87) so I don't know about product availability in the larger scales. One good source is Wm K Walthers a large retailer and wholesaler of model railroad supplies in the US. Their website is;
www.walthers.com

Besides the obvious military trains another feature to look at is trolley cars. Many large cities in Europe in WW2 had trolley systems, but these don't often show up in scenes or models.

JPB,

I have been working on the same project myself. The problem is that toy train manufacturers are far worse than the toy soldier industry for keeping to scale. Their is no standard G or standard 'standard' scale. Companies vary greatly from each other and even from one type of train car to another.

Aristo-Craft claims to be 1:29 standard scale and I brought a few of their pieces. Their engine and caboose was perfect with K&C, but their boxcars are far to large (even bigger than some LGB which are suppose to be 1:22 scale?). I found MTH's boxcars to be a mucher closer fit though. MDC products are suppose to be closer to K&C size, but I have not brought any of their products yet.

Flat cars are easy, almost any size works. The only passenger cars that I have found that closely match K&C size is Aristo-Craft, but I have not tried them with MTH yet.

Here is a chart with actual train car sizes. It even give door heights to compare with a standing K&C figure.

I will take some pictures when I get the chance.

I used to collect trains and I thought MTH is O Gauge, which I don't think would be a right fit. Would have that LGB would be right on the money.

LGB is no more, bankrupcy.

The brandname has been bought by Marklïn, but I don't know if they are making the old LGB products. I don't think so. I believe they are pushing there Scale 1 trains.

Does anyone know if the are ok for KC tanks etc. ???

Als looking for a nice wagon to make this Compiegne diorama:

Marklin's Maxi or Scale 1 line is 1/32 scale, so some of the cars will probably look small when compared to K&C's 1/30 scale.:)

ARRRGH!

You guys would bring up the subject of trains. It brings back an old desire for an model armoured train. This might be a good subject for some modeling company. Hint, hint. Could offer cars one at a time thereby allowing collectors to asemble their own set.

Brad, MTH does primary produce O and HO gauge, but they do have a '1 gauge' series under their railking line that is about 1/32 scale. I have seen LGB train cars at the local hobby store, they are far too big at about 1/22 G scale.

For Marklin TrainS, 1 Scale, I think these are described as 1:29.

The following maybe a much better link and bridges are shown on page 3.

The above is an english language site. Cars here are grouped as to ERAs include 1930s and 1940s with the appropriate markings, one even has the german eagle. Colors ranging from red, blue to green. Below is a German language site.

A tad expensive, but posting anyway

Marklin 1 58132.

From this product description

From 1939 on the German State Railroad purchased two variations of skirted passenger cars, which were practically identical. The only difference was that the type ABC 4ü-39 cars had a 1st class compartment instead of the third 2nd class compartment of the type BC 4ü-39 cars. The compartment lengths were the same for both classes, so that the same window pattern could be used. Externally, the ABC car was identified by the additional ”1” underneath the respective compartment window. Naturally, the car was a lot more comfortable than its third class sibling. The walls were clad in plywood and to some extent veneer. The German State Railroad selected Linoleum as a floor covering. Modern Görlitz III design trucks ensured a quiet ride in the car. In addition to steam heating, the German State Railroad also installed electric heating. The cars, built by Zypen & Charlier in Cologne-Deutz, provided excellent service. When 3rd class was done away with, the German Federal Railroad designated all of the cars as 1st and 2nd class cars. Existing 3rd class compartments were rebuilt. These 21,250 mm / 69’8” vehicles had to make way to the 26.4 meter / 86 foot 7 inch standard design cars.

Guess what Bill Gaso.line makes 'em, but they are in 1:50 :(

There are more on the second page. This is a good reference site too as they pretty much continue to list all the various manufacturers retired items too. They once were selling K&C but now they are not.

V2 Train? But who will make it in 1/30 Scale?

Wow it's really weird that i ran into this thread today, i was actually in a train model shop yesterday looking for a train to fit with my K&C figures. 1:29 G scale is the best i found, they actually look really good! I found a train platform for 46$ which i might purchase along with one wagon.

I'm thinking of doing a repaint of the wagon with the German Grey with some Nazi signs on it, but ill first do some research on it.

So i strongly recommend 1:29 scale, i actually had my figures in the shop to compare :p

Here i found a picture of what i might purchase!
