Build your own autumnal forest! (summer trees will be here soon) Since most of use display our figures on bookshelves, we have limited range of height, usually about 12". Our new tree is designed to allow the collector to create a forest of tall, old growth Oak trees on his shelf. The trunk of the tree begins to branch out at about ⅔ mark, creating a canopy across the top of the display. While to top of the display is full of full color autumn oak leaves the bottom ⅔ of the display merely has trunks, so hands can easily reach through the forest to place as many or as few figures as you want. Use Hudson & Allen Woodland Debris or Forest Litter to cover the bottom shelf with fallen leaves and forest debris (and cleverly hide any figure bases) and use Britain's Woodland backdrop to line the back and sides of the shelf and you will have created a realistic world to display your figures.

Depending on the type, oaks can be considered a medium to tall tree, as many oak trees range anywhere from 60-100 feet tall when fully grown. A fully leafed out, 70 foot oak tree can have a crown spread of 50 feet, and while all crown shapes differ, oak trees all have that distinctively oak, lobed leaf. In autumn these leaves turn from their rich greens to reds and golds, to orange and browns, in some of the most beautiful displays in the forest. With the fall’s change in temperature and loss of daylight, leaves stop their food-making process. The leaf ’s numerous cells contain chlorophyll, which gives the leaf its green color. This chemical absorbs the energy from sunlight and feeds the tree. When the chlorophyll breaks down, the green color disappears, and the show begins.
Realistic and durable, this piece is designed to fit a common book shelf. Multiple trees placed at differing angles will give your display the illusion of a dense, old growth forest.

53010 - Fallen Old Growth Oak Tree with Stump
The majestic oak has a life expectancy of 150-300 years, sometimes longer. They reach a moderate height of 65-85 feet upon maturity, which takes about 20 years. They are exceptionally disease resistant and, once established, drought tolerant. The broken oak tree here was most probably struck by lightning. Oak trees tend to be hit more often than other species. They are superior conductors of lightning because of their height and are full of moisture and sap that is better at conducting energy than the shorter trees nearby. The amount of moisture in an oak log means it won’t fully decay for 15-20 years even if it comes into contact with wet soil – a log that is kept above ground or in an arid location will last almost forever.
