The wife and I are about to travel to France for a bit over a week- Paris for a few days then up to Normandy to visit the battlefields.

I know there have been past threads on toy soldier sites and shops, but it has been a few years and wanted to see if there were any updates or must-sees.

Thanks in advance,
Allen

In Paris you can have a look at the" cowboy dream": 16, rue de Turbigo 75002 Paris. It is the ex KC dealer and he has left some different brands items for sales. About expensive "connaisseurs" figures, you can find a toysoldier shop at the entrance of "Palais Royal" near the cafe, nice view, anyway.( in the photo below, me at the " Palais Royal" shop). Not so much left in Paris today.:salute::

You might want to visit CBG-Mignot, instead of looking at contemporary brands that you can get everywhere.

Prost!

You may go to Solda'Telis, at 3 RUE DES ACACIAS 75017 PARIS, FRANCE. It`s a K&C dealer, located near to the Arc du Triumph. It`s a small shop, I was there last June, and the lady who owns it was very nice and helpful.

Hi,
Try this place. North east of Paris and quite easy to find. Musée de la Figurine Historique.

Not much to buy here as it's a museum. I visited it a few years back and it is absolutely fantastic. Especially if you are into Napoleonic soldiers.
There are several rooms full of dioramas and a little workshop come store room where they renovate old toy soldiers for display.
Even my wife was impressed with the displays and she can't understand our hobby at all.

Address
Musée de la Figurine Historique
28 place de l’Hôtel de Ville
60200 Compiègne
tel: 03.44.20.26.04

This is the website

If your into WWI you could also visit the Forest of Compiegne (a few miles from the museum) where they have a replica of the railway carriage which was used for the signing of the peace treaty which ended the first world war.

Yes, I'd agree with that ....

This is their website, but check on the days they are open, I went in summer and they weren't open every day.

I stopped here for the night on our way into Paris and visited the Armistice site and the toy soldier museum.

They have over 10,000 toy soldiers from the very old, right up to the latest made. Its in the centre of tow, right next to the town hall, see pic below.

Compiegne is only an hour on the train north of Paris, and the trains leave from Gare du Nord if you want to do a day trip.

I've never been, but it looks like some nice stuff:

I bought many TS from my collection there. They have the best selection of Napoleonic's (and many other era's). They do ship to the US. Also don't forget the detax (-20%) and the Euro is weak vs. the USD right now. I also just sent you a list of restaurant and things to see/do in Paris. Bon voyage !

I would recommend "La Boite de Soldats" owned by Francois Beaumont. The inventory is mostly old toy soldiers.
You will see things in the shop you will not see elsewhere. Francois is a regular attendee at the Old Toy Soldier Show
in Chicago. He is open 3-7 Wednesday-Saturday. A Google search of "La Boite de Soldat" will yield more information.

Thank you, Mirof and Roustam, and others, who recommended seeking out and visiting the places you did, places that are unique to France, both in terms of our hobby, and sites. Why go to France and go to a shop that sells K&C, when you can get them everywhere? Why not just go to McDonald's while you're there and have a burger, fries and a Coke, too? No, take advantage of the opportunity and look for those things that you won't see at home.

Rant complete, prost!
Brad

All,

Thank you for the wonderful recommendations- I'm looking forward to tracking down a few of these shops and always appreciate a broad selection of items.

Thanks,
Allen
