Folks,
My in-laws are going to Normandy next summer and will spend a few days seeing it. They asked me about recommendations on books about the campaign for novices.

Does the forum have recommendations on good overviews of Normandy? Specialized or focused books are OK, too, but overviews are the priority.

Thanks,

Larry

Do you mean a history of the invasion?

If so, I like the Hastings book and the Carlo d'Este books.

Yes, but something that covers some of the follow-up battles so 6 June 1944 – mid-July 1944.

The d'Este book is really good, in my opinion.

Do you think my MilHist novice in-laws will like it? Thinking about that one as the true recommendation from the comments on Amazon. Seems it gets the most compliments on its readability.

I think it's plainly written and not overly technical. As one who sometimes get lost in military history and its jargon, I thought his book avoided those pitfalls.
