TRIVIA---character actor/writer Leo Gordon was best known for playing villains. During World War II, Gordon was in the Army and was shot while robbing a bar with another soldier. He spent five years in San Quentin State Prison where he became a voracious reader and educated himself in the prison library. While appearing in CELL BLOCK 11, director Don Siegel said, "Leo Gordon is the scariest man I have ever met."
Gordon is best known for appearing in THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW episode "High Noon in Mayberry", which was written with Gordon's prison background in mind. He played a convict just released from prison who returns to Mayberry to see the man who sent him to prison, Sheriff Andy Taylor. Gordon's other famous role was with John Wayne in McCLINTOCK! where Wayne says, "Somebody oughta belt you but I won't! I won't! The hell I won't." and knocks Gordon down.
As a writer, Gordon wrote scripts for over 50 tv shows including BONANZA, MAVERICK and CHEYENNE. He also wrote and appeared in the World War II movie TOBRUK starring Rock Huson and George Peppard.
