TRIVIA---Frank Sinatra signed to star in DIRTY HARRY, but he withdrew after a broken wrist sustained in the fight scene in THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE would have prevented from properly firing Dirty Harry's .44 Magnum. When Sinatra left, so did director Irvin Kershner (THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK). Actors who turned the role down included Steve McQueen, John Wayne, Paul Newman, George C. Scott, Burt Lancaster and Robert Mitchum. Clint Eastwood eventually got the role.
