Found some nice armatures in my neighbors tree clippings the other day...

wanted to make some new trees so tried drilling tiny holes in them and gluing the dried foliage stems into them...

I found a new way to poke a hole in your finger...hehehe...

I'll get better at it...

Excellent work. I like the tree. The commercially available choices are unsatisfactory in my opinion.

I am very good at poking holes into my fingers. Let me please know if you need help.

:p

Deal....I get to operate the drill...:D

You are making good trees Michaell they sure look good....The Lt.

Mike the Trees came out great!!! As for the suggestions you asked for as to how to make them look better??? The only thing I can suggest to you is maybe expirement with painting the branches where they meet the tree trunk to help them blend in a bit better and if you really want to get into getting a bit more deeper into getting them more realistic you could use some 2 part putty or clay and clump a couple of pieces of the dried pepper grass and build up the branches where they join into the tree and even sculpt in a bit of bark detail, but they look great as is. You might even want to think about what it would look like if you sprayed in some color on the leaves before you put them on??? Maybe fall yellow and reds??? or even some highlights and dead leave areas.

Throwing around different ideas and tinkering and trying new things will lead to all kinds of new ideas and will help you build a better mouse trap the next time around when you learn new tricks and better ways to do things, always think outside the box and don,t be afraid to experiment!

GREAT JOB!!!!

You're right...would be a smoother and more relaistic trasition of trunk to branch with a little clay clumped and painted...also if the branches were painted to match the trunk...I painted the original brown foliage a green color (basil)... but missed so many spots with the spray that is has a two tone effect already...maybe it doesn't show in the photos...

Mike, click on this link and look at the way this guy bunches his together in the photo! If you can bunch them together like that and then stick them into the trunk and use some 2 part putty to blend it into the tree to get a more natural looking branch starting point and a better taper look going fatter coming out of the tree and then thinning out like a real tree and then try and get a paint match to the natural tree you could make some really realistic looking trees.

I know its a lot of work and I don,t know how far you want to go to make them look more natural looking but its just food for thought.

Tim...I saw that link before...I think you sent it to me...that's the pepper grass...candy tuft...

He does make some nice trees...but I don't see how he works without knocking all the other branches off...

seems like delicate work not to disturb the first branches...

I used sesame bloom...close as I could find right now to pepper grass...

somebody is sending me 3 peppergrass and those pods we talked about...

I know I can do better...
