I bought a Russian casting of the above at a reasonable price and started to look for reference pics to help in the painting. There are no pics of a Cossack carrying Alexei dressed in a sailor uniform.
This was the casting. The right foot appears shorter. I decided to cut off both boots and reinsert wire to balance the height. However, the foreshortened photo doesn't appear to show this clearly. I've decided to paint the Russian coat in red to contrast against the white sailor suit.
While waiting for putty to harden, paint to dry etc, I was flipping over some of my old threads and decided to retake final pics for some of them. Some of these pieces looked better after the oils had dried nicely or I had added a thin layer of dullcote to matt the surfaces. Anyway, enjoy!
