certainly they can find out who started this fake tweet can't they?

the market dropped 140 points on this fake news...

apparently the AP twitter account was hacked...

I would imagine that they can trace it back. I wonder if it was illegal? No doubt a bonehead thing to do in this day and age but was it illegal? I have no ideal but it is interesting to see how it turns out.

I know it's a Class D felony to threaten the President...which is a almost a "minor felony" if there is such a thing...and I know the Secret Service and whatever other law enforcement agencies that act on this...take these threats very seriously...however...

whoever did this didn't actually threaten the President...

I had a friend...and while on a binder in a local bar...threatened to kill Nixon publicly...he did receive a visit a few days later from some form of Government officials...nothing came of it...

I think there are both Federal and State laws regarding hacking websites...

the Associated Press...I would think they would prosecute any hacker...

some people in the stock market lost a lot of money on this...if they ever catch him...they might want him prosecuted or held responsible...

there are some lawyers on this forum...they are better qualified to field this...

I would guess with all the tech today they will be able to find him if they want too...but I do not have a Twitter/Facebook account so I am not that familiar with the mechanics of it.

I am not sure a Twitter of my day to day would be of much interest to anyone at all :)

Another example of the perils of Twitter, a rather wasted experience IMHO. Why news agencies need a twitter account is another sad sign of the times.

Quite true. It's like a wild west out there.
